Rebels Can’t Tame Wildcats

TeamFYNSports

Last night, the Fannin Rebels traveled to Rabun County to take on the Wildcats for their first game in two weeks. Fannin had just come from a win against Union County and hoped to continue the trend.

Fannin started off with the lead as Jordan Bennett put the ball into action and scored a three-point shot to start off the first quarter. Bennett led the Rebels in scoring for the night with 13 points overall. Kaeden Twiggs was right behind the Junior as he drove through the defense and added 11 of his own points to the Rebel’s score. The Wildcats followed suit and made three-point shots of their own to take the lead and end the first quarter with a score of 18-8.

The Rebels played a zone defense in hopes of keeping Rabun from their basket. Instead of driving the lane, the Wildcats had good looks inside to their posts to score their points. Landon Norton came to life in the second quarter as he banked a three-point shot above the key to add to Fannin’s score. Rabun County continued to advance their lead as they went into halftime with a score of 31-23.

Dylan Collins made his return to the court as he made an impact on the game from the block by scoring three points of his own. Tucker Hanson showed off his hustle for the night as he drove through the defense and contributed nine points to Fannin’s score. Rabun was able to end the third quarter with a 43-33 lead.

Andre Bivens had his first game back and made his mark in the fourth quarter as he drove the lane for a layup. Gabe Waltz was on the block for Fannin and added a basket of his own to the Rebels score. While Fannin fought hard until the end, they were unable to catch up to the Wildcats who ended the game with a 55-43 victory. Union started off the game hot as they wasted no time putting points on the board. The Panthers were able to score 19 points before the Rebels put any points on the board. Jordan Bennett was the one to get things started for Fannin as he scored a three-point shot from above the key with 2:55 left on the clock. The Rebels were able to close the gap and managed to get the score to 20-14 to go into the second quarter.

Norton started off the quarter with another three-pointer to put Fannin only three points behind Union. Tucker Hanson followed suit as he made a three-point shot to tie up the game 20-20, and contributed 16 points to the Rebels score for the night. The Rebels came to life as they started to make their comeback. When Union scored a layup to take back the lead, Kaeden Twiggs was right there to make one of his own and tie the game back up 22-22. Twiggs showed off his ball-handling skills for the night as he was able to make his way to the basket and put 14 points on the board for Fannin. Norton was able to earn back the lead for the Rebels with two made foul shots to put the score at 24-22. Norton showed off his three-point game as he banked one above the key giving Fannin a 34-33 lead. Union answered the call as they made a three-point shot to take back the lead. While they came close, Fannin was unable to take the lead again in the third quarter as Union put the score at 42-40 to go into the fourth.

Both teams were getting after it and playing their hearts out in hopes of getting a win. Twiggs stepped up and scored three foul shots to put Fannin ahead 43-42. The lead went from team to team until Hanson scored a three-point shot to put Fannin ahead 48-46. Union was able to tie up the game until Twiggs made a layup to give the Rebels the lead once again with a score of 50-48. Despite their best efforts to make a basket, Union was only able to make one foul shot and fell short one point to Fannin’s 50-49 victory.

The Rebel’s win puts their overall record at 3-4 while their region record remains 1-1. Catch Fannin’s next game on Thursday night as they take on Rabun County at 6:30pm!

Rebels battle Trojans

Fannin County High, Team FYN Sports

Last night, the Fannin Rebels traveled to North Hall to take on the Trojans for their second region game of the season. Fannin had just come from a tough loss to Dawson County the game before and hoped to redeem themselves with a win against North Hall.

Kaeden Twiggs was the first to put the ball into action as he drove for a layup just to have North Hall bank a 3 point shot and take the lead were they continued to extend it for the rest of the game. Twiggs got after it as he contributed 6 points to Fannin’s score for the night. Miles Johnson played hard down on the block where he made a basket and drew a foul to make both of his free throws. Cohutta Hyde led Fannin in scoring for the night with 11 points overall and closed out the first quarter with an outside shot to put the score at 11-8 with North Hall in the lead.

Both teams played hard and fast as they rushed up the court to score points. Brady Martin had a great game as he got after it on the block and earned 5 points for the Rebels. Jerritt Holloway had hustle as he made his way right through the defense and scored a layup to add to Fannin’s score. There were loose balls all over the place as both teams kept getting their hands on it in efforts to make a steal. As time on the clock ran out, North Hall went into halftime with a 23-15 lead over the Rebels.

The second half of the game is when the Trojans began to run away with their lead. They were able to find their way around the Rebel’s defense and made their way to the basket. While Fannin’s go to method of scoring was looking inside to posts or driving to the basket for layups, sadly they didn’t have much luck in their free throw game for the night which proved to be their downfall. However, Fannin did play good defense where they earned many steals for the night. Only down by 8 points, the Trojans extended their lead 32-24 over Fannin to end the third quarter.

Due to his grit on defense, Jalen Ingram fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Landon Norton was the second to foul out, but not before adding a basket to Fannin’s score. Although they were behind, Fannin still fought as they made and drew fouls in an attempt to stay in the game. Unfortunately, their efforts proved not be enough as North Hall walked away with a 44-32 victory.

Fannin’s loss puts their overall record at 3-4 while their region record stands at 0-2. Catch the Rebels next game today as they take on Union County at home, starting at 3:30pm!

Fannin County High, Team FYN Sports

Last night, Fannin Rebels traveled to Dawson County to take on the Tigers for their first game of the region. The Rebels had just come from a tough 2 point loss to Gilmer in their Thanksgiving Tournament and hoped to redeem themselves against the Tigers.

Due to Dawson County not marking their starters 10 minutes before the game started, Fannin got to shoot technical foul shots. Cohutta Hyde was the one to shoot for Fannin as he made one free throw to give Fannin a 1-0 lead to start off the game. It took no time at all for Dawson to get the ball back and add onto their score. While Fannin scored most of their points from driving to the basket or looking inside to their posts, Dawson scored the majority of theirs from 3 point shots and closed out the first quarter with a 20-10 lead.

The Tigers outside shooting game was unstoppable as they made 14 three point shots combined for the night. Fannin had a few 3’s as Jerritt Holloway and Landon Norton both made some of their own to add to Fannin’s score for the night. Andre Bivens had hustle for Fannin as he earned steals and drove back for layups and scored one 3 point shot to contribute 9 points overall for the Rebels. Eli Brisbay Cochran followed Bivens trend as he scored a layup and a 3 point shot of his own for the night. Dawson kept adding onto their score as they went into halftime with a 34-21 lead.

Cohutta Hyde and Andre Bivens led Fannin in scoring for the night as they both earned nine points overall. Mason Barnes was the one to lead Dawson in scoring for the night with 22 points overall! Miles Johnson came to life in the third quarter as he drew fouls from shots down low and added 6 points on the board for Fannin. The Rebels started to lose their intensity as Dawson closed out the third quarter with a 67-33 lead.

Fannin Rebel, Kaeden Twiggs, showed off his ball handling skills as he drove past the defense and added four points to the board. Brady Martin had grit on the block as he pushed past the defense to get to the basket and added four points of his own to add to Fannin’s score. To close out the game, Dawson County hit a buzzer beater 3 point shot to put the final score at 85-43 to claim a victory over Fannin County.

Fannin’s loss puts their overall record at 3-3 while their region record stands at 0-1. Catch the Rebels next game on Friday at 8:30 pm as they travel to take on the North Hall Trojans!

The Panthers began to drive to the basket to score layups and managed to take a 13-9 lead to end the first quarter.

The Rebels kept up their intensity to start off the second quarter. Cohutta Hyde showed off his ball handling skills as he contributed 12 points to Fannin’s score for the night. The Panthers refused to give up their lead as they made 3 of their own 3 point shots and extended their lead 43-34 to end the third quarter.

Fannin’s defense came to life to start the fourth and final quarter. They applied heavy pressure and made Union work to get to the goal. Andre Bivens showed off his hustle for the night as he made moves to get past the defense and score a basket for Fannin. Brady Martin turned the game around as he made a shot on the block from a pass to Hyde to give the Rebels a 45-44 lead over Union. From that point on, the Rebels kept working hard to keep their lead. Along with Martin, Jalen Ingram also proved to be an asset on the block as he earned rebounds and put them back up for made shots to add 4 points to Fannin’s score for the night.
