Rebels Stomp Coosa, Look Ahead To Region Matchup With Dade

Sports, Team FYN Sports, TeamFYNSports

The Fannin County Rebels have been the proverbial “buzz saw” for almost all of their opponents this year. In their 8 wins this season, they have only given up 8.5 points per game on average. They are looking as good as any team in the 2A classification in the state of Georgia up to this point.

Last Friday, they traveled to Coosa to face the (1-9) Eagles in the Rebels final away game of the regular season. Fannin entered the game as nearly a four touchdown favorite, and nearly covered that spread, coming away with a 37-7 victory on the road. Senior’s Austin Garland and Seth Reece handled the bulk of the offensive duties for the Rebels, combining for 241 rushing yards and 3 total touchdowns. Cason Owensby and Andrew Wladrep anchored the stingy rebels defense once again, leading their team in tackles and combining for 5 tackles for loss. With the win, Fannin moves to 8-1 on the year and are in sole possession of first place in their Region.

Up next for the Rebels is a home game with Region 7AA foe Dade County. Dade County currently sits at 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference, and with a win they can overtake the Rebels for first place in the Region.

Easier said than done.

Dade County’s lone Region loss came against a Chattooga team that Fannin County beat 42-7 just 2 weeks ago.

Fannin County is a 21 point favorite heading into this matchup, and can secure a home playoff game with a victory. As long as the Rebels stick to their game plan and execute as well as they have been able to for much of this season, they should roll over the Wolverines.

According to MaxPreps, Fannin is ranked 6th in the 2A classification in the state of Georgia. The Rebels are finally seeing their rankings reflect their play, and will look to crack the top five this weekend with a victory over Dade.

Rebels Can’t Tame Wildcats

TeamFYNSports

Last night, the Fannin Rebels traveled to Rabun County to take on the Wildcats for their first game in two weeks. Fannin had just come from a win against Union County and hoped to continue the trend.

Fannin started off with the lead as Jordan Bennett put the ball into action and scored a three-point shot to start off the first quarter. Bennett led the Rebels in scoring for the night with 13 points overall. Kaeden Twiggs was right behind the Junior as he drove through the defense and added 11 of his own points to the Rebel’s score. The Wildcats followed suit and made three-point shots of their own to take the lead and end the first quarter with a score of 18-8.

The Rebels played a zone defense in hopes of keeping Rabun from their basket. Instead of driving the lane, the Wildcats had good looks inside to their posts to score their points. Landon Norton came to life in the second quarter as he banked a three-point shot above the key to add to Fannin’s score. Rabun County continued to advance their lead as they went into halftime with a score of 31-23.

Dylan Collins made his return to the court as he made an impact on the game from the block by scoring three points of his own. Tucker Hanson showed off his hustle for the night as he drove through the defense and contributed nine points to Fannin’s score. Rabun was able to end the third quarter with a 43-33 lead.

Andre Bivens had his first game back and made his mark in the fourth quarter as he drove the lane for a layup. Gabe Waltz was on the block for Fannin and added a basket of his own to the Rebels score. While Fannin fought hard until the end, they were unable to catch up to the Wildcats who ended the game with a 55-43 victory. Catch the Rebel’s next game at Chattooga next Tuesday, starting at 7:30pm!
