Are You Looking For Peace?

Religion

All true peace comes from God. It is one of the nine fruits of the Holy SpiritAll true peace comes from God. It is one of the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22ff). At a deeper level peace comes only from knowing God. It isn’t just having His gift. It is having Him. Apart from Him there can be no peace. Without Him there is no future to look forward to, no final rest with Him in Heaven. Without Him, there is no security that someone is in control and looking out for you.

If we do have God, through Jesus Christ, in our lives, then many things will seek to steal His peace from us. That, of course, is one of Satan’s main strategies. If he can rob us of our peace then we become diverted and unproductive in the Kingdom. Fear will replace the peace.

There is a particular doctrine of the Christian Faith, when properly understood, that helps protect our peace. It is the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God. Simply put, God is in control, totally, of everything. If we truly believe this, then regardless of what happens, we can accept it from God’s hand. If we allow in our thinking that anyone else, anything else is in control, then there is no certainty and no peace.

It is very important to note, and we learn this from the story of Job, that even Satan is on God’s leash. Satan had to get permission to do the things he did to Job. At the end, God restored everything to Job two-fold. Everything that comes into our lives is filtered through the loving hands of the Father.

My favorite Scripture on this topic is found in the book of Daniel. In the 4th chapter we read of King Nebuchadnessar. He received a warning from God. He ignored it and God took away his kingdom and sent him into the wilderness to live like a beast for seven years. At the end of that time (vs. 34, 35 NASB) Nebuchadnessar declared:

For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom endures from generation to generation. And all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven, And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, “What hast Thou done?”

Trusting in God’s Sovereignty and Providence will impart new peace into your life. He is in control.
