The Fannin faithful were treated to two great games on Thursday night, as the Lady Rebels went into two overtimes before falling to the Hiawassee Dam Lady Eagles and the Rebels dominated the Eagles in a twenty-one point victory.Following the singing of the national anthem by Fannin player Logan O’Neal, the Lady Rebels hit the court ready to take on the Lady Eagles. The first quarter was evenly matched as far as both teams were concerned, and once it had ended the score was evened up at 11-11.
The second quarter of play saw the Lady Rebels really get it going offensively, outscoring the Lady Eagles 17-9 to hold a comfortable 28-20 lead at halftime.
Hiawassee Dam managed to respond with a run of their own in the third quarter, scoring fourteen points of their own to cut Fannin’s advantage to a single point—34-33—going into the fourth.
Now with the end in sight, both teams locked down on defense, resulting in just fifteen points being scored in the quarter. Two foul shots by Hiawassee Dam with 0:25 left on the clock tied the game 41-41, which meant overtime was ahead.
The first period of overtime saw very little scoring for either team, as both managed to put up four points in the extra allotted time. Tied 45-45, a second overtime was now necessary, a session that would not be very good to the Lady Rebels.
Fannin struggled to stop the Lady Eagles in the second overtime, as Hiawassee Dam broke free in this period and scored eleven points. Unfortunately for the Lady Rebels, the team was unable to put up any points, resulting in a tough 56-45 loss.
Molly Chandler led the way in scoring for the Lady Rebels, putting up eight points in the double-overtime loss. Chandler also had nine rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Hope Cochran did her part for Fannin in this game, scoring nine points and finishing with a team-high twelve rebounds.
Next up was the matchup between the Rebels and the Eagles in a game that saw Fannin pull away in the first half and never look back.
The Rebels really got it going in the first quarter of play, scoring fourteen points to hold a 14-8 lead at the quarter’s end. Fannin continued to dominate in the second quarter, outscoring Hiawassee Dam 21-11 to give the team a 35-19 lead.
Now with the chance to coast to a victory, The Rebels contained the Eagles in the third and fourth quarter, allowing just a total of 17 points. Fannin’s own twenty-two points in the final two quarters secured a 57-36 victory for the home team.
Will Patterson made his presence known to the Eagles early and often on Thursday night, scoring a team-high twelve points and coming down with seven rebounds.
Austin Rhodes gave Fannin his all in this one, finishing the game with a total of nine points, nine rebounds, and a team-high four assists.
The Fannin Rebels and Lady Rebels will be back in action next week in the Pickens Holliday Classic, which will take place from Thursday, December 27th to Saturday, December 29th. Matchups in the tournament are yet to be announced.
