The Fannin County High School Rebels wrestling team traveled to Ringgold to take part in the AAA sectional tournament. Three wrestlers participated: Kayleb Chancey (106); Sean Callihan (182) and Blake Callihan (195). All three placed top sixth or higher. Blake Callihan, who placed fourth, will move on to the state tournament in Macon. (more…)
The Fannin County High School wrestling team competed this past weekend at the Area Duals. The rebels went 1-6 with a win against Pike 42-37. Receiving wins were Blake Carroll, Matthew Seabolt, Matthew Holtslander, Sean Callihan, Blake Callihan, Austin Hughes, and Daniel Lay. The Fannin County High School wrestling team recognized the roots of the Rebels’ program by acknowledging the USA Wrestling youth program midway between the duals matches between Hayesville and Murray. In a brief ceremony FCHS head wrestling coach Joshua Snyder introduced nine wrestlers from the youth program to the audience. Fannin fell to both Hayesville and Murray 53-28 and 52-30, respectively. Rebels’ Wrestling Rides To Gilmer: Goes 0-2

The Fannin County High School wrestling team rode to Gilmer County for two dual meets against the Indians of Murray and the home team, Gilmer Bobcats. The Rebels were scalped by the Indians 73-6, then beaten by the Bobcats 75-0. It was senior night for Gilmer, coached by Sam Snider, father of Fannin head coach Joshua Snider. Fannin was able to muster only one match win on the night, a pin by Dillon Doster at the 126 lbs weight class, versus the Indians.
The Fannin County High School Rebels wrestling team hosted Towns County and Union County on “Senior Night,” the last home matches of the year. The Rebels went 1-1 losing to Towns County on criteria, after tying 42-42. Towns won because of more first points scored. Fannin found success against Union, winning 42-37. (more…)
Fannin County will begin a youth wrestling club. The club will be open to Fannin County’s second through sixth graders. The first practice and information meeting will be Thursday, December 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Fannin County High School old gymnasium. Practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Wrestlers need to wear practice clothes each practice.
The Fannin County High School wrestling team had a come from back weekend. After Fannin fell in a road dual meet to the Dragons of Pickens County, getting scorched 66-15, the Rebels rose at the Rumble on the Ridge. The Rebels, the host team of the dual style tournament, placed third with a 3-1 record. The Rebels only loss came at the hands of Blessed Trinity, the tournament’s first place team. The Fannin County High School Rebels wrestling team hosted the first dual meets of the season, and of new head coach, Joshua Snider’s career. The Rebels were able to split 1-1, as Fannin fell to Gainesville, 42-33 in the first match of the day; however, Fannin bounced back, as the Rebels rose over Murphy 42-39. (more…)
