Fannin eventually took a 42-24 lead; however, three straight pins by Towns cut tied the match, allowing Towns to take the victory via criteria.

The Revels jumped out to an early lead on Union also, as the Rebels raced to a 21-0 lead before a Union pin cut the lead to 21-6. The teams then traded forfeits to make the score 27-12.

Two Fannin pins pushed the lead up to 39-12. Union won only two more matches, one pin and one forfeit, allowing the Rebels to secure the 57-24 win.

The Rebels match comes shortly after an impressive showing in the 8-AA Area Duals tournament over the past weekend. Fannin beat Rabun 48-27, after Caleb Chancey won his first ever match, and sparked the Rebels’ rise over Rabun. Fannin followed the win with a 72-6 lost to Banks, who finished third overall in the tournament. The Rebels then beat E. Jackson, 42-36 before falling 42-37, in a dual that head coach Joshua Sniders was adamant, “we should have won.”

Snider described his team’s effort on the first night of the tournament, thusly, “Friday was the best we ever wrestled. We wrestled like gold.”
