James Willard Curtis, age 76, of McCaysville, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in Chattanooga, TN. He was born on October 6, 1942, in Copperhill, to the late James Ed Curtis and Lona Mae Boggs Curtis. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill. He worked as head mechanic for the Fannin County Board of Education. He is also preceded in death by siblings, Wade Curtis, Wayne Curtis, Junior Curtis, Charles Curtis, Bobby Curtis, Marilyn Stillwell, and Earlean Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Stewart Curtis; daughter, Penny (John) Bonds; granddaughter, Abbey Bonds; siblings, Max Curtis and Carolyn Anderson; step-children, Lanita (Jeff) Kaylor, Robert (Michelle) Stewart, and Tenya (Kevin) Queen; step-grandchildren, Anita Postell, Matthew Kaylor, Josh Mumpower, Tori Panter, Drew Stewart, and Mikayla Queen; and 9 step-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Max Curtis and Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Music will be provided by Ed Vest, Becky Millsaps, Cindy Call, and Cash Laws. Interment will follow in the Epworth First Baptist Church Cemetery with Matt Curtis, Tony Petty, Josh Curtis, Bobby Plush, Donnie Millsaps, Tostie Curtis, Matthew Kaylor, and Josh Postell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Buster Fowler, Danny Shinpaugh, Dan Long, Don Millsaps, David Brooks, Steve Cochran, and Tommy Hamby. Mrs.Robin Lang, of Fayetteville GA, passed away on September 11,2019 at her sister’s home in Fayetteville, GA. Robin was the daughter of the late Kathryn and Charlie Waters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Lang.
Robin is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Lang of Atlanta, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Laveta and Stephen Wehunt, Fayetteville, GA.
Robin was a dedicated mother to her daughter, Elizabeth. She home-schooled Elizabeth until college, where Elizabeth graduated with her Masters Degree in Psychology. When Robin was forty seven years old she was diagnosed with a neurodegeneratve disease similar to a slow progressive Lou Gehrig disease. Through the years she slowly progressed to being on a ventilator for the last five years. Robin had a spirit of never giving up. She was hospitalized many times. She never complained. For the last 10 years, she resided at her sister and brother-in-law’s house in Fayetteville,Georgia. Over the years she had the love and care of very special care givers. They became family. They were Christine Yorke, Esther Amponsem, Wilma Blunt, Lourdes Dinina, Perpetua Gymabra, Iona Durham, and Sandra Fulton. She also had the assistance of a special respiratory therapist, Ursula Slaughter. Robin was unable to attend church but was ministered to by the Rev.Harris on every visit to the hospital from Jonesboro First Baptist Church. Robin fought a hard battle. She always relied on her faith in Jesus.

Jacqueline Cook Milam, age 86, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. Born on August 8, 1933, in Cliftondale, GA, she was the daughter of the late J.R. Cook and L.E. Pierce Cook. Jackie was currently attending The Ridge Community Church. She worked as a Parent Coordinator at Fannin County Headstart for a number of years. Also preceding in her death was her son, Robert Riley Milam.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bobby C. Milam; children, J. Philip (Lisa) Milam of Buford, GA, Joy Milam Hice of Ellijay, and Lynn Milam (Anthony) Hughes of Ball Ground, GA; grandchildren, Alexandra Nicole Milam, Christina Grace Milam both of Buford, GA, Cole Milam Hice and Riley Laurens Hice both of Ellijay, GA, Hannah Hughes Duran of Dawsonville, GA and Emily Claire Hughes of Ball Ground, GA; great-grandchildren, Hayden Hughes, Luke Duran and Collin Duran; brother, Jean (Melinda) Cook of Palm Harbor, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and other special family and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 4:00 PM from The Ridge Community Church with Dr. Chan Mitchell officiating. Music will be provided by Jeff Higgins. The family will visit with friends at the church on Monday afternoon from the Ridge Community Church from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Mr. George J. Berry passed away on September 7, 2019 at home. Mr. Berry, a native of Union County, spent his working years in Atlanta and retired in 2004 to Monroe County in middle Georgia. He was born on July 5, l937 to William Cautus Berry and Lorena Crawford Berry of Blairsville.
He was a member of the Union County High School Class of l955. He graduated from Young Harris College and Georgia State University. He worked for four mayors of Atlanta and was the Chief Administrative Officer of the city under Mayors Sam Massell and Maynard Jackson. He was perhaps best known as the official responsible for a major expansion of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport which at the time was the largest single public construction project in the history of the State of Georgia. He later served as head of the Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism under Governor Joe
Frank Harris. He was appointed by Governor Zell Miller to Chair the board of the Metropolitan Atlanta Olympic Games Authority which provided public oversight to the l996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He concluded his working career as Senior Vice President of Cousins Properties Incorporated, an Atlanta real estate development firm. Always proud of his mountain roots, Mr. Berry served for many years as a Trustee of Young Harris College and on the Advisory Board of the Byron Herbert Reece Society.
Mr. Berry is survived by his loyal and loving wife of 56 years, Jeannine Barrett Berry. Also by a son, Mark Jefferson Berry (Liz) of Alpharetta and a daughter Jennifer Berry Hudgins (Scott) of Forsyth, GA. His pride and joy were five grandchildren, Oliver, Harry and Virginia Hudgins and Crawford and Jackson Berry.
The graveside interment services at Union Memory Gardens will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to the Young Harris College Local Scholarship Campaign.
