Spartans Spoil Rebels’ Roll as Fannin Falls to North Hall

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels and Rebels basketball teams hosted the North Hall Spartans. Spartans ran out to a 6-3 lead. The Lady Rebels began to slowly cut into the lead thanks to Hope Cochran, who scored Fannin’s first eight points. The Lady Rebels cut the lead to one, 14-13, as the first quarter came to a close.
The Lady Spartans opened the second quarter with a 7-2 run that gave North Hall a 21-15 lead with 6:36 left in the first half. A Fannin full court press assisted the Lady Rebels in causing numerous turnovers which resulted in the Lady Rebels trimming the lead. A fast break layup by Lindsey Humphrey, the result of a Morgan Chastain steal; cut North Hall’s lead to three, 28-25, as the first half came to a close.
Fannin found it’s mojo in the third. With 6:20 left in the third, Courtney Satterfield’s steal and fast break lay-up put cut North Hall’s lead to one, 29-28; however, North Hall responded with an 8-3 run, forcing a Fannin time out with 2:13 left in the third and the score 37-31.
Chastain then began to dish dimes like “coin star” as her three straight assists led to the first Fannin lead of the game. A three from Logan O’Neal cut the lead down to three. Another three from Satterfield tied the game, and a Summer Grice lay-up gave the Lady Rebels a two point, 39-37, lead. However, a buzzer beating North Hall jumper tied the game 39-39 going into the fourth.
The Lady Rebels were outscored 25-16 in the fourth, resulting in Fannin falling 64-55. Chandler led the Lady Rebels in points and rebounds, scoring 17 and pulling eight boards, six defensive. She also added two steals and a block.
Humphrey scored 13 and pulled down six rebounds, four offensive, and two steals. Cochran was the last double digit Lady Rebels’ scorer. She had 12 points and seven rebounds, four defensive. She also added a block and a steal. Chastain led the team in assists with five.
The boys’ game began much like the girls’ with the Spartans pressing harder than an iron. Fannin fell behind 5-1 early; however, the Rebels responded with a 9-6 run that cut the lead to one, 11-10, with just under two minutes left in the first quarter.
With one minute left in the first, Fannin was already in the bonus shooting one and one. Austin Williams tied the game, 14-14, from the free throw line; however, a North Hall three put the Spartans up 17-14 going into the second period.
Despite, being in the double bonus and shooting two free throws per foul less than two minutes into the second quarter, the Rebels fell behind by eight, 34-22, at half time. Fannin simply found no answer for the three point barrage spewed by the Spartans.
The wheels fell off for Fannin in the third, as the Spartans pressing pressure forced Fannin into more turnovers than the neighborhood bakery. North Hall finished the game with 15 steals, compared to Fannin’s two. North Hall lead by 32, 60-28, at the end of the third, and finished with a 67-36 win.
Austin Rhodes led the Rebels in scoring with seven points. He also had four rebounds, three offensive. Three Rebels finished with six points, Will Patterson, Zeke Huffman, and Jason Arp. Patterson led the team in rebounds with five, three offensive.
