Betty Jean Couch

July 29, 1944 – May 23, 2019

Mrs. Betty Jean Couch, age 74, of McCaysville, GA, passed away on May 23, 2019 in the Union General Hospital. Born in Fannin County, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Clint and Ethel R. O’Neal Huffman. She was a loving wife for 57 years, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Couch was saved and a lifelong member of the Mt. Liberty Baptist Church. Betty Jean loved the Lord and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Travis Couch of McCaysville; her children and their spouses, Dana and Eric Chastain of McCaysville, GA, Yvonne and Gary Ledford of Murphy, NC and Travis, Jr. and Sandy Couch of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, Morgan Chastain, Logan Ledford, Trevor Couch and Tamra Couch; brothers and sisters-in-law, William Jackie and Helen Huffman of McCaysville, GA and Howard and Mildred Huffman of Douglasville, GA; sister, Nora Bell Payne of McCaysville, GA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mt. Liberty Baptist Church with Lynn Payne, Travis Hughes and Joey Phillips officiating. Music was provided by Robbie Chastain, John Newton, Drew Deaver and the Mt. Liberty Baptist Church Choir. Interment followed in the Mt. Liberty Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Logan Ledford, Trevor Couch, Gary Ledford, Eric Chastain, Tony Couch and Billy O’Neal. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Huffman, Tim Huffman, Philip Couch, Ryan Deaver, Wade Rymer, Zeke Huffman, Jacob Couch, Zachary Couch, Aaron Couch, Nathan Newman, Johnny Pelfrey and Van Pelfrey. Donations in memory of Mrs. Couch may be made to the Mt. Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 93 Couch Dr. McCaysville, GA 30555. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.
