Truman Clarence Wilson

April 12, 1931 – January 10, 2019

Truman Clarence Wilson, age 87, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his home. Born in Morganton, he was the son of the late James Avery and Dovie Pickelsimer Wilson. He was a member of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church. Truman served in the United States Army for over 20 years, having achieved the rank of Sergeant 1st Class, upon his retirement. He later worked and retired from Gold Kist where he was an Electrician. He was also a founding member of the Fannin County Civil Defense.

His military service took him to many places around the world. Although he enjoyed all of his travels, he found that there was no place in the world that he loved like Fannin County, He loved to spend time at “The Shed,” his place on Pickelsimer Mountain. He found joy in being around people and was a wonderful storyteller. He enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge, stories of his unique experiences, and his witty one-liners. He had a love for music which he shared with many members of his family, and could often be seen picking his guitar at Picking in the Park. Truman was also an avid bowler until recent years. He loved to serve his family, his church, and his community in any way he was able. He was proud of his family, who affectionately referred to him as “Tru” or “Grandpaw.” He liked to say that “when you start with good stock, you get good offspring.” He later worked and retired from Gold Kist where he was an Electrician. He was also a founding member of the Fannin County Civil Defense.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen Jane Wilson; children and their spouses, Sharon and Jerry Pack of McCaysville; Angie and Vance Allen of Morganton, Phil and Sina Wilson of McCaysville; Jeff Wilson of Blue Ridge; Ben and Lisa Sanders of Cumming, Leigh Ann and Brandon Hobgood of McDonough; sister and brother-in-law, Emma Jane and Amos Neely of South Lyon, MI; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other beloved family members and friends.
