Long Visits BRES Students

Rebel's Corner

School bus safety is always an exciting event for students, especially for those having the experience for the first time. To ensure that the information and safety rules discussed are remembered through the excitement, Transportation Director, Benny Long decided to have an additional program to reinforce the important information.Kindergarten, first and second grades attended a small assembly in the guy with Mr. Long. The presentation was filled with cartoons and fun songs to remind children that they are to sit back to the back of the seat, their bottom to the bottom of the seat and their feet on the floor (if possible) as well as their bodies out of the aisle.

One of the kids’ favorite parts was the catchy Jamaican type song that reminded them of the areas outside the bus that they should avoid. Long asked them to join in singing along to the jingle. As they sang along, they remembered the danger zones outside of the bus and the jingle had done its job.

At the end of the assembly, as the students lined up and returned to class, they were still, subconsciously repeating the song they’d just learned.

“If what we do sticks with one child and saves them, it is worth it all”

said Long. It is a safe assumption that, with all of the children that were repeating the island themed jingle, more than one child remembered the bus safety rules.
