The kindergarten students at Blue Ridge Elementary visited the University of Georgia Agricultural Department in Blairsville, GA on Wednesday, September 4th and received a surprise as they ventured through the hills of apple trees.Students arrived and got off of the bus as many were excited considering it was their first field trip. They divided up into classes and visited various centers that allowed them to learn the phases of an apple seedling up to a beautiful apple tree covered in apples. They also played an apple relay game, practiced counting and number orders, received a ride behind the tractor to view different parts of the orchard and reenacted a story. At one of the centers, they even got to pick their very own apple. While they were venturing out to select the perfect apple, a surprise guest was found…it was Johnny Appleseed. When they bumped into him, they gathered around to hear his story about how he traveled all over the land planting apple seeds.
After their trip to the orchards, the students went to Meek’s Park in Blairsville to have lunch before they returned to school. The children will be talking about meeting the famous Johnny Appleseed for weeks to come. Congratulations, kindergarten students!
