Fannin Fights but Falls to Pickens Dragonettes 2-1

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels volleyball team traveled to Pickens County to take on the Pickens High School Dragonettes. Despite winning the first set, 25-21, the Lady Rebels fell in three sets, losing the last two 26-24 (in overtime) and 25-19.The Lady Rebels drew first blood in each set, with each one a back and forth affair, with neither team ever leading by more than six. Fannin’s Lindsey Humphrey was “killing (them) softly with (her) song” the whole night. She racked up eight kills in the three games.

The Lady Rebels took control of the series by winning the first set 25-21. With the game tied 19-19 the visiting Lady Rebels went on a 6-2 run ignited by a kill from Humphrey’s that won the first set.

The second set began with a kill by Hope Cochran that started a 3-0 Fannin run. The home team Dragonettes quickly tied the game with a 3-0 run of its own.

Tied 6-6, the Lady Rebels went on a 10-4 run capped by a Chandler Byrd kill. However, the Dragonettes came storming back with an 11-2 run that saw the home team lead 21-19. Bethany Deal’s tip kill pulled Fannin within one.

Fannin tied the game at point match 24-24, but eventually fell 26-24.

The last set saw Logan O’Neal lead off for the Lady Rebels with a tip kill that sparked a 3-1 Fannin start to the set. The Dragonettes eventually tied the game at 4-4.

Fannin responded with an 8-3 run that saw the visitors lead 11-7. Pickens picked up the pace and responded with a 5-1 run that tied the game at 12-12.

Humphrey’s dig/kill started a 5-1 run that saw the Lady Rebels lead 17-13. The home team fought back and outscored Fannin 12-6 over the course of the contest to secure the 25-19 set victory and the 2-1 game decision.
