The Fannin High School Rebels football team hosted the Spartans of West Hall, on Homecoming night. The Spartans routed the Rebels 49-7 behind the strength of a 35-0 first quarter. Kaitlyn Chastain and her escort Josh McFarland were crowned Homecoming Queen and King respectively.Coming out of the gate, Fannin’s players’ emotion showed that they wanted a Homecoming “W.” The Rebels started the game holding West Hall to a quick three and out; however after a few successful runs, Jordan Gray went down with an injury and the offense began to unravel.

A sack of Rebels’ quarterback, Trevor Stone, set up a fourth and 22 for the Rebels. After a 25 yard punt return the Spartans set to go to work on the Rebel 23. They would find the end zone a mere two plays later. Two plays later the Spartans scored a touchdown.

The woes continued for the Fannin faithful in attendance, as the Spartans spirited of a screen pass at the Rebels’ 13 yard line.

The Spartans took advantage of the short field, scoring on a nine yard touchdown run to go up 14-05:54 left in the first.

The ensuing kickoff resulted in 7 more points for the Spartans as Fannin fumble was returned two yards for a touchdown, giving West Hall a 21-0 lead after a successful extra point, despite only having amassed 36 yards of offense at that point.

The Rebels managed a first down on the next possession; however the offense stalled forcing Fannin to punt back to West Hall.

The Spartans’ big plays prevailed once again when West Hall broke out in a 51 yard dash to the end zone two plays into the drive. With 2:49 left in the first the Spartans went ahead 27-0, after a failed two point conversion attempt.

The plague would not be over for the first quarter blues from the Rebels. On the ensuing drive, Stone would get the ball knocked out of his hand with a Spartan recovering it. West Hall air mailed it 20 yards on the next play to end the quarter leading 35-0.

The turnovers and special team’s pitfalls proved to be problematic for the rest of the game. Fannin would give up 14 more points in the remaining three quarters but the defense seem to be improving.

Tyler Beavers and the Rebels never lost heart throughout the tough loss. Beavers would put the only Rebel points on the board late in the fourth quarter on a 90 yard TD run for the Rebels avoiding the and providing the final of the score, 49-7.

The Homecoming festivities made for a flurry of formal wear both before the game and during the half-time spectacle. Five senior guys and girls, along with other class representatives took the field at halftime for the joyous occasion, with Kaitlyn Chastain being named queen and her very own escort, Josh McFarland being named King.

These next two weeks Fannin hopes to keep its new defensive look up as they gear up for North Hall in two weeks falling the upcoming bye week.
