Commissioner Chairman, Bill Simonds, proclaimed May 2013 as Foster Care Month for Fannin County. The proclamation was signed into effect on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at approximately 10:05 am. Currently, there are nearly 40 children in foster care from Fannin County that are being provided a safe, secure and stable home as well as a compassionate and nurturing foster family. The Fannin County Department of Family and Children’s Services have a concern because they only have a total of eight foster homes. They hope that by increasing awareness that more people will open their homes to these endangered children. Chairman Simonds challenges Fannin County citizens to come forward and do something positive that will help change a lifetime for children in foster care by becoming a foster care family.
