FYN Exclusive: Swan Drive In Goes Digital

Community, Featured Stories

With spring around the corner, many families look to move their functions outdoors to enjoy the nice weather and since movies are a way that families like to spend time with one another, FYN sat down with Steve and Kathleen Setser to learn more about the new digital equipment they have upgraded to just in time for the outdoor movie goer season. It is no secret that technology is ever changing and that digital media has taken over, therefore transforming many aspects of our lives ranging from television sets at home to photos that we take. In light of the technological movements, the owners of the hidden gem of Fannin County decided to upgrade the equipment in order to ensure that generations to come will have the opportunity to enjoy the historical experience of the drive in. Together, Steve and Kathleen made the decision to spend over $70,000.00 on the digital equipment as a personal investment. When asked if digital media was a decision made to attract more movie buffs, FYN was told that the change was not to do so.

“Switching to digital is something necessary to stay in business and by changing to that, it ensures that the drive in will still go on and people will still have the drive in”

Steve said.

As far as what you can expect when you visit the Swan Drive In, the typical popcorn, candy and soft drinks are a given but Kathleen says a crisp, clear picture with phenomenal light and color can also be expected.

“The quality of the picture is really, really amazing”

she said.

After hearing about the image quality of this new equipment, excitement build and FYN was anxious to see the new picture on the fairly new screen that the drive in has to offer. Lucky for us, Fetch was invited to tag along to see the beautiful, vivid colors on the screen. It was an honor to receive the sneak peak!

Aside from the new equipment, the Swan Drive In is one of only four of these buried treasures in the state of Georgia and one of less than 500 in the country. The drive in proclaims to be a family oriented place, in fact, Steve and Kathleen love to see children enjoying the overall experience that their parents and grandparents shared when they were young.

“Bring the kids with you. They can run and play in the grass”

Kathleen says.

At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. & Mrs. Setser expressed their appreciation for the great support they have received from customers near and afar.

“We are very grateful for the support of the community, especially the council members that stood up for us when we needed it”

Steve said.

Without a doubt, Mr. & Mrs. Setser have strived to make the drive in experience a memorable one that is, essentially, as original as possible. They may not have the old speaker boxes to hang in your window but they do still provide an old school experience with the perks of technology for today’s generations.
