Lady Rebels on Top vs. Pickens

The Fannin Lady Rebels hosted a volleyball match on Thursday night, and came away with a lot to be happy about. The JV squad had two matches, winning against Morris Innovative (25-20, 25-10) and losing to Pickens (25-23, 25-20(L), 25-19(L)). The varsity played one match against Pickens and won in two sets (25-15, 27-25).JV kicked the night off against Morris Innovative. Fannin was down early after Morris Innovative started the set with an ace. Down 6-3, the Lady Rebels fought back to tie the set at 7 apiece.

After a few back and forth points, Fannin began to pick up the pace. With the Lady Rebels leading 18-13, the Lady Tigers put together a run that tied the set at 20-20, but the Lady Rebels was able to pull away once again and win 25-20.

The second set was a quick one with the Lady Rebels putting the pressure on. Great execution by Fannin paired with Lady Tigers mistakes, made this set a lopsided one. Fannin started the match with a staggering 18-3 run, and closed the match out by winning the set 25-10.

The JV’s second match on the night came against 515 rival, Pickens County. The “Nettes” and Lady Rebels traded points for most of the match until Pickens took a lead at 10-8.

The “Nettes” maintained this lead until the score was 22-18 and the Lady Rebels battled back to tie it. Fannin then took the set 25-23.

The second set proved to be just as close, with both teams switching leads throughout. The Lady Rebels built a small lead, but the Nettes put together a 6-0 run that forced the Lady Rebels to take a timeout. Pickens extended the lead with an 8-1 run and won the set 25-20.

The third set was all Dragonnettes, as they established an early lead and held it for the duration of the match. Aside from a 5-4 Lady Rebels lead, the Nettes took control and won the set 25-19 giving them the match.

The lone varsity match of the night was also between the Lady Rebels and the Dragonnettes of Pickens High School. The “Nettes” took control early, and held a 13-11 lead. It was at this time that Lindsey Humphrey decided enough was enough.

The Lady Rebels scored nine straight points behind multiple aces from Humphrey, and it proved to be too much for the Nettes, as Pickens lost its composure and the Lady Rebels took the set 25-15.

The second set was a close one. Pickens held the early lead but never pulled away. After the Lady Rebels tied it at 10-10, Fannin began to score at a fast pace. The momentum was on the Lady Rebels side and the team was full of excitement.

Hope Cochran was fueling the positive vibes as she showed emotion with every big play that was made. With this, the Lady Rebels ran the game all the way to a 24-18 score.

Pickens didn’t want to go down without a fight, and it showed when the “Nettes” scored six straight points to tie the game at 24-24. It was too little, too late though as the Lady Rebels were able to get back on track and win the set 27-25 which gave Fannin the match.
