With Highlights Rebels Battle Banks, but Fannin Falls 47-46

The Fannin Rebels football team hosted the Leopards of Banks County for the second year in a row due to the new region realignments. The revenge minded Rebels refused to repeat last year’s 42-21 Leopards lambasting; however a 43 yard Leopards’ touchdown run with 2:07 left in the game gave Banks a 47-46 come from behind victory on Fannin’s homecoming night. At halftime Todd Patterson and Bethany Deal were crowned homecoming king and queen respectively.

The Rebels scored on the first Fannin drive of the game, a 56 yard seven play drive. Quarterback, Trevor Stone, connected on passes to Noah O’Neal, Jordan Gray, and Peyton Satterfield to move the ball down to the Banks seven yard line.

Stone then connected with Satterfield for a seven yard touchdown pass and reception. Fannin led 6-0 with 8:52 left in the first quarter after a blocked extra point.

On the ensuing drive Banks bumbled the snap on second and 17, leading to a Fannin fumble recovery by Joseph Sanders on the Banks 24 yard line.

Fannin failed to capitalize, as a five yard Stone touchdown run was called back, due to a hold. The Leopards leapt in front of a Fannin fourth down pass, and picked it off. Banks took over on its own seven yard line with 4:26 left in the first quarter.

The Leopards took a 7-6 lead with an 82 yard touchdown run followed by a successful extra point with 3:08 left in the first quarter.

A squib kick out of bounds again gave Fannin favorable field position, on the Rebels’ 35. The Rebels took advantage, as Satterfield burst by Banks’ defenders with a 21 yard scamper that set up first and 10 on the Leopards 44 yard line.

A Jarod Petty screen pass reception went for 35 additional yards and the Rebels held the ball on the Banks 12 yard line. An 11 yard pass to Dakota Queen gave Fannin first and goal from the one yard line.

Satterfield scored on the next play, giving the Rebels a 12-7 lead with 1:20 left in the first after a failed Fannin two point conversion attempt.

Banks battled right back with an 80 yard touchdown drive that gave the Leopards a 13-12 lead, after a missed extra point, with 5:42 left in the first half.

The Rebels rallied with a 68 yard scoring reception by Satterfield, putting the Rebels back in front with a 19-13 lead with 4:21 left in the half. Banks tied the game just before the end of half time to go into the second half all squared at 19-19.

Fannin fielded a Banks squib kick with a 12 yard return that gave the Rebels the ball on the Leopards’ 37 yard line. Fannin finished the drive off with yet another Satterfield touchdown, this one an eight yard scamper that gave the Rebels a 26-19 lead with 8:04 left in the third quarter.

The seven point lead was cut down to one a mere 17 seconds of game time later as the Leopards scored on a 62 yard scamper, that made the score 26-25. Banks’ two point attempt was thwarted by Sanders.

20 seconds of game time after the Banks score, Gray put Fannin up 33-25 with a 25 yard touchdown run. However, the lead would not last, as Banks again tied the game with another touchdown run and a successful two point conversion that came with 4:08 left in the third quarter.

The Leopards leapt in front with a 16 yard touchdown run just before the end of the third. O’Neal’s sack on the two point conversion attempt kept the score at 39-33, in Banks favor, heading into the fourth.

O’Neal put Fannin back in front of Banks with a 41 yard touchdown reception. With 10:17 left in the fourth, Fannin held a one point, 40-39 lead.

Satterfield’s 43 yard touchdown run, his third on the ground, and fifth total gave Fannin a 46-39 lead with 3:32. A failed Fannin two point attempt would ultimately prove to be fatal.

On the ensuing drive Banks scored with a 43 yard quarterback keeper that put the pulled the Leopards within one, 46-45. A successful two point conversion gave Banks the lead for good, as Fannin’s fourth down pass fell incomplete on the next drive effectively ending the Rebels’ road to victory.
