Rebels Ready For Road to College After Baseball Banquet

The Fannin County Rebels Baseball team had their annual Baseball Banquet Tuesday, May 29, 2012.Coach Bubba Gibbs started the banquet off by recognizing his JV players and giving out individual awards to his players as well.

Coach Gibbs started off with the Pitching Award, given to Cody Falls. Falls pitched 43 innings and had 43 strikeouts.

Coach Gibbs said of his player,

“He threw a one hit, six inning game against a pretty good baseball team.”

The Offensive Award was given to Triston Wilson who had 34 at bats, 10 hits, 2 doubles, 10 RBI’s and had a .294 average for the season.

The Defensive Award was given to Dusty Dyer for his outstanding play behind the plate as catcher. Dyer caught one inning of varsity baseball and had a .984 fielding percentage.

Coach Gibbs said,

“He actually played a pretty big role on the varsity this year. He was the bullpen catcher, which comes with absolutely zero glory.”

Gibbs also said,

“I could always count on Dusty to block the ball.

The last JV award given was the Coach’s Award. Gibbs explained that the recipient had to be someone who always showed up and had a good attitude. The award was given to Damon Rose.

Before the individual awards were given out, Coach David Dyer had three players that made the All-Region second team. Those players were: Andrew Hyatt, 8-AA Second Team All-Region Pitcher, Brett Davis, 8-AA Second Team All-Region Third Baseman, and Noah O’Neil, who could not attend the ceremony, 8-AA Second Team All-Region Designated Hitter.

Coach Dyer also recognized the First, Second, and Third year Letterman. First year: Cody Falls, Triston Wilson, and Dusty Dyer. Second Year: Kolton Galloway, Adam Miller, Todd Patterson, Ray Stanley, Peyton Satterfield, Trevor Stone, and Jordan Gray. Third year: Colby Bowers, Brett Davis, and Andrew Hyatt.

Coach Dyer said,

“This is my 15th year as a head coach, and I have only had one kid drafted to play Major League Baseball.”

Dyer went on to say that only .001 percent of college athletes get drafted to play pro ball.

The first varsity award given out was the Scholar Athlete Award presented by Coach Greg Chambers, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. The award was presented to Todd Patterson who has a 4.0 GPA.
The Pitching Award was given to Andrew Hyatt, who pitched 30 and 2/3 innings, 35 strikeouts, an ERA of 2.11, and a record of 4-1.

Coach Dyer awarded Kolton Galloway the Defensive Player Award for his Catching. Galloway picked off six guys, caught every inning but one, and had a .910 fielding percentage.

The Offensive Award was awarded to Brett Davis who hit in the 3, 7, 8, 2, and 5 spots in the batting order and never missed a beat with a team high .333 average. He also had a .418 OBP, 3 Doubles, and 11 RBI’s.

The Coach’s Award was given to Trevor Stone who “showed up early and was the last to leave.”
