The Rebels and Lady Rebels had a busy weekend this past week taking on the Dawson Tigers and the Pickens Dragons. The teams split with Dawson, with the Lady Rebels falling and the Rebels pulling off a come from behind win. Fannin swept Pickens in the match ups.
The Ladies started the games facing the powerhouse, undefeated Dawson Lady Tigers. Stefanie Tatum took charge for Fannin in the opening quarter but her six points wasn’t enough as the Lady Tigers went on a 23 point run to end the 1st by a score of 23-8.

Fannin was able to get a rhythm going in the second quarter spreading the scoring out and putting up 14 total points. Kayla Chancey put up some huge threes to make the half time score 22-41.

Dawson kept its scoring attack up in the second half, moving on with a 83-43 win. Lacey Walden lead the team with 9 total points on the game.

The ladies looked to get back on track on Saturday as rival Pickens came into town. In the first match up of the year the Lady Rebels were able to walk away with a three point victory. This game would be another nail biter, going down to the wire.

Lindsey Humphrey and the ladies started off slow with a nine point first quarter and 11 in the second. The defense would hold the Dragonettes though, allowing the Lady Rebels to walk into half time only trailing by one.

Pickens had trouble stopping Molly Chandler in the third, allowing her six of the teams 15 third quarter points. Chandler and Walden were able to hold off the Nettes, after the two combined for eight more points in the final minutes to win 43-41.

After the busy weekend the Ladies move to a 7-8 record with a 1-4 record in the region. Fannin will be back in action on Friday when the Lady Panthers from Union come to town.

The Rebel boys took the weekend to improve their record by adding two more “W’s” in the win column. The match up saw the Rebels facing the Dawson Tigers on the road. The boys showed the fatigue from the trip by coming out and only scoring four in first quarter.

After the slow start to the game the Rebels took care of business in the second quarter getting back into the game going into the break only trailing by 3. The third quarter was all Fannin. The Rebels came out hot, scoring 13 points to the Tigers five. That lead would be enough to last as the Rebels coasted to a 43-34 victory.

Brandon Jordan lead the team scoring 20 points followed by a Logan Holt 13 points. The victory, and hot shooting, stuck around on Saturday when the Dragons of Pickens arrived in Fannin.

Fannin came out firing scoring 14 to the visiting 7 from the Dragons. Fourteen would be Fannin’s number scoring 14 in the second and third quarters as well allowing the Rebels to run away from the opposing Dragons.

A final 18 points put the boys in favor of a lop sided 60-43 win. Will Holloway put up 15 points in the game to lead the Rebels followed by Sam Kaye and Jordan each having 11.

The two wins more the Rebels record to (9-6) and a (2-3) region record. In their next game, the Rebels face the Union County Panthers in a non-region game, on Friday, January 16. The Panthers enter the game with a 12-5 record.
