Rebels battle Indians

Fannin County High, Team FYN Sports

This past Tuesday, the Lumpkin County Indians traveled to Fannin County High School to take on the Lady Rebels for region play. 

Kaeden Twiggs  was the one to jump at tip off as he got Fannin started by gaining possession of the ball. Twiggs showed off his great ball handling skills and made his way to the basket to add 12 points to Fannin’s score for the night. The Rebels made their way to the basket, but had a difficult time keeping up with the Indians. Lumpkin was able to maneuver around the Rebels and give themselves a 16-8 lead to end the first quarter. 

Jordan Bennett started off the second quarter as he banked a 3 point shot. Bennett played hard as he added 8 points to the Rebel’s score for the night. Jerritt Holloway showed offhis hustle as he made a layup to add to Fannin’s score. Although Fannin was able to find their way to the basket, Lumpkin was on fire above the key with their 3 point shots. The Indians were able to close out the first half with a 29-18 lead over Fannin. 

The Rebels started to come to life to start the second half of the game. Cohutta Hyde had gritas he drove to the basket and added 11 points to Fannin’s score for the night. Andre Bivens also earned 11 points for Fannin as he was on fire above the key. Bivens was the last to score in the third quarter to put the score at 42-33 with Lumpkin still in the lead.

Fannin’s posts worked hard on the block to score points. Miles Johnson and Jalen Ingram was able to push through the defense and earn 6 points each for the Rebels. As Fannin started to catch up, Landon Norton gave the Rebels a second chance. With the Rebels behind 52-49, Norton hit a buzzer beater 3 point shot to tie the game 52-52 and put the game into over time!

With 4 minutes on the clock, Fannin was able to earn the lead, just to have it taken away. The game kept going back and forth and time on the clock passed by. With 4.7 seconds left, Fannin was down 65-61. At the last second, Cohutta Hyde hit a buzzer beater 3 point shot to put the score at 65-64 for Lumpkin to claim the victory.

Fannin’s loss put their overall record at 4-5 and their region record at 0-3. Catch the Rebels next game tonight @7pm as they take on Cherokee Bluff at home!
