Rebels Rev Ramblers
FCHS Football, Team FYN Sports August 31, 2019
Last night, the Fannin County Rebel Football team traveled to LaFayette to take on the Ramblers. Although this was not a region game, Fannin was determined to get another win to start off their record 2-0 for the first time since 2008.
Fannin received the ball first where they had no trouble putting it into action. For the first touchdown of the game, Rebel quarterback Luke Holloway ran the ball into the end zone. Sara Sosebee’s attempt at an extra point was good, putting Fannin ahead 7-0. James Mercer and Sawyer Moreland had stops on defense for the Rebels, but it was not enough to keep the Ramblers from breaking through to run for a touchdown and tie the game with a successful extra point attempt. When it was Fannin’s turn on defense again, Carson Beavers showed off his hustle as he intercepted the ball and earned a Rebel first down! Down the field, Holloway made a pass to Cohutta Hyde who had an amazing jumping catch for another Fannin first down. With the Rebels in scoring position, Holloway made a pass to Jaylen Ingram in the end zone to score another Rebel touchdown. Sosebee’s point was good, putting Fannin ahead 14-7 to end the first quarter.
While Fannin relied on passing to gain most of their yards, LaFayette ran the ball most of the night. As they got closer to the end zone, they ran the ball for another Rambler touchdown and tied up the game with a kick for an extra point. As Fannin was executing their passing game, an almost caught ball for Fannin turned into a LaFayette interception. Senior, Jakob Tuggle, had big plays on defense where he ran through the line and sacked the quarterback. When Fannin had possession of the ball again, Holloway made a long pass up the field to Carson Beavers for a Rebel first down. Right after Beaver’s catch, Holloway threw another pass, but this time it found itself in Will Mosley’s hands as he ran into the end zone to give Fannin the lead. Sosebee continued her trend and added an extra point to Fannins score, putting them ahead 21-14 to go into halftime.
The Ramblers had a long kick off return to start the second half. As LaFayette tried to run the ball up the field, they found Mason Bundy and Miles Johnson ready to stop their next move. Treylyn Owensby was the go to guy for handoffs where he would juke through the defense and gain yards for Fannin. Owensby was handed the ball once again by Holloway and he pushed through the heavy defense for a Rebel touchdown, followed by an extra point made by Sosebee. With Fannin ahead 28-14, Alex White executed a squib kick in hopes of preventing a return. Hyde was just as alive on defense as he was offense when he made an interception to end the third quarter.
On a Fannin first down, Holloway finds Owensby to hand the ball to score his second touchdown of the night. The extra point by Sosebee put Fannin ahead 35-14 to set the pace for the final quarter. With another squib kick from White, the Rebel’s defense was solid. As Fannin applied heavy defensive pressure, the Ramblers fumbled the ball for Fannin to recover it. Seth Reece had carries and gained yards for the Rebels to put them in scoring position. As Holloway looked up the field to get rid of the ball, he found Hyde in the end zone to catch a pass for Fannin and score once again for Sosebee to follow right behind with a perfect kick. Instead of returning the ball on the squib kick, the Ramblers decided to take a knee. Just as LaFayette was about to score, Austin Belyeu intercepted the ball for Fannin and let the clock run out with the Rebels ahead 42-14.
Fannin’s win puts their overall record at 4-0. Catch the Rebel’s next game Friday, September 13 as they take on Union County at home!
