This past Saturday, the Lady Rebels traveled to Towns County to take on the Lady Indians for their second matchup of the season. Fannin defeated Towns 44-36 the first time they played each other and looked to continue the trend.
Both teams were putting up a fight in the first quarter of play as the score was neck and neck. Junior, Morgan Holt, was aggressive with the ball as she pushed through the defense to lead Fannin in scoring with seventeen points for the night. Kenedi Henson was the go to girl for Towns County who led her team in scoring with fourteen points for the night. The Lady Rebels were able to claim an early 15-10 lead over the Indians to end the first quarter.
Each team tightened up their defense to start the second quarter. Becca Ledford got after it on defense with her hustle where she did the same on offense by contributing three points to Fannin’s score. Abby Ledford showed off her great ball handling skills and followed the trend by adding nine more points on the board. Since the Indians made it harder to drive to the basket, Maleah Stepp decided to score her ten points from outside shots. Both teams played a solid defense as each only allowed nine points to be scored against them, putting the score at 24-19 with Fannin still in the lead.
As the third quarter started, both teams kept the determination they finished the first half with by only allowing a few points to be scored against them. With the defense protecting the basket, the Indians began to foul. Rebel posts, Olivia Sisson and Reagan Henderson, were aggressive on the block as they each added six points to Fannin’s score for the night. The Rebel’s kept their small lead as they closed out the third quarter with a score of 32-28.
With the Indians continuing to foul, they found themselves in foul trouble in the fourth quarter. Lady Indian, Taylor Cornett, found herself being careful with four fouls as Vanessa Floyd earned her fifth and fouled out of the game. Fannin began to maneuver through Towns’ defense and extend their lead to close out the game with a 51-38 victory over the Lady Indians.
Fannin’s win put their overall record at 7-17 while their region record stayed the same at 3-8. Catch the Lady Rebel’s next game this Friday at 7pm as they travel to take on Greater Atlanta Christian.
