Lady Rebels Lose Battle to Spartans

Uncategorized

The Spartans began their quest for victory as they traveled to take on the Lady Rebels. It was a long two hour journey for Greater Atlanta Christian, but it allowed them time to create an effective plan for battle. The Lady Spartans sought to continue their winning streak of four games while the Lady Rebels were striving to redeem themselves from a championship loss in the tournament they hosted a week prior.

It all went down hill for the Lady Rebels once the Spartans got the ball from tip-off. The Rebels were lacking the intensity that they have had in previous games, but were fighting to bring it back. The Lady Rebels made most of their points from the block where posts Hope Franklin and Makenzie McClure both led Fannin in scoring with eight points each. The Lady Spartans did most of their damage from driving the lane where Taylor Sutton snuck in and led her team in scoring with twenty-two points. Greater Atlanta Christian led Fannin at the end of the first quarter with a score of 14-8.

With GAC putting heavy defensive pressure on Fannin by full court pressing, it made it hard for the Rebels to get to the basket. This resulted in the Lady Spartans to get steals and add onto their score. Since the Lady Rebels had trouble breaking the press, they had better luck looking up the court and passing through it. Through the press, Fannin found Mackenzie Johnson who was able to fly by the opponents with her speed. As soon as Maleah Stepp saw an opportunity for an outside shot, she took it and made a three pointer for her team. Morgan Patton started in the game after recovering from an injury that had kept her out all season and contributed two points for the Lady Rebels. The Lady Spartans led the Lady Rebels 27-16 at the end of the second quarter.

During the second half of the game, the Lady Rebels started to play more aggressive on defense. Savada Collins proved to be an asset on defense with her hustle by adding two points to the Rebels score. Lady Rebel, Bailey Whitener got rebounds downlow and put two more points on the board for Fannin. Another post for the Rebels, Reagan Henderson, played scrappy downlow and contributed three points overall for her team. The Lady Rebels score had strayed farther and farther away from the Lady Spartans at the end of the third quarter with a score of 51-23.

Towards the end of the fourth quarter, a new group went in for the Lady Rebels. Each player that was put on the court proved that they wanted to be out there. Once Ashton Davis stepped on the court, she got after it and played with grit. Emily Beavers rebounded and drew fouls from downlow and so did Kyla Seabolt. Natalie Thomas had good looks and passes inside from above the key. Freshman, Abby Ledford, drew a foul and added one point to the Lady Rebels score.  They all put hustle and heart into the last few minutes of the game but unfortunately could not make a comeback. Greater Atlanta Christian walked away with a 65-29 victory over the Lady Rebels.

The Lady Rebels loss puts their overall record at 8-8 while the Lady Spartans stand at 11-3. Catch the Lady Rebels game tonight as they take on Lumpkin County at home starting at 5!
