The Fannin County High School Rebels baseball team beat Banks County, leaping over the Leopards with a 5-3 home victory. The win brought the Rebels’ record to 6-8.The Rebels had to come from behind, as the Leopards lept out to a 1-0 lead early after a top of the second RBI sac ground out. The Rebels remained down 1-0 until the bottom of the third inning.
After Will Shirah led off with a walk, Judson Hawkins followed with a single to center field. Both scored when Cody Falls followed Hawkins with a two run double that put Fannin up 2-1.
Dusty Dyer’s two run two out single pushed the lead to 4-1 going into the fourth inning.
The score remained 4-1 until the top of the sixth when Banks batters scored two runs on back to back RBI singles, cutting the lead to one, 4-3.
The Rebels secured the lead for good, with Garrett Rogers RBI single in the bottom of the same inning that scored Hunter Rice, and proved to be the final score of the night, as the Rebels faced only four Banks batters in the top of the seventh with only one reaching first base.
Shirah pitched five innings and accumulated 10 strike outs, Brandin Davis came in relief in the final two innings finishing with two strike outs and the save. Dyer and Falls finished with the team lead in RBI with two, and Rice led the team with three hits.
