Dusty Dusts off Bobcats with Walk off Single

The Fannin County High School Rebels baseball team recently hosted the Gilmer High School Bobcats. The Rebels rallied from a three run bottom of the seventh deficit to take a 5-4 win due to Dusty Dyer’s walk off single.The game began with Cody Falls on the mound. He faced only three batters, as two ground outs preceded the lead-off batter being caught in a run-down stealing third.

The Rebels took the first the lead of the game when Jacob Reece drove in Aaron Bradley with a two out RBI double.

Will Shirah followed with a single, that was originally ruled an out, but was overturned; however, the inning ended with a fly out and two men stranded on base.

The Bobcats bounced back, tying the game with an RBI single in the top of second inning. Falls was replaced by Dawson Sparks in the top of third, having pitched two innings, and giving up one earned run.

Sparks pitched three innings of one run, ball, with the earned run coming via a Gilmer home run in the top of the fifth that put the visitors up 2-1. The top of the sixth saw Knuckleballer, Bradin Davis, come into the game.

The Bobcats extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh, after two runs scored on errors. Fannin used the last at bat to lead the Rebels rally.

With two outs, Judson Hawkins was hit by a pitch, putting men on first and third.

Jacob Reese walked, loading the bases.

A bases loaded two run stand up double from Shirah, cut the lead to 4-3.

After River Dixon was intentionally walked to load the bases, Judson Hawkins also walked scoring the tying run.

Despite a Bobcats’ pitching change, Dyer followed with the aforementioned walk off RBI single that completed the Rebels’ rally with a 5-4 victory.
