Rebels Route Two Straight: Pounce on Panthers 7-2, Wallop West Hall 13-1

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball team recently routed both the Lady Panthers of Union (7-2) and the Lady Spartans of West Hall (13-1). The junior varsity Lady Rebels team also swept its double header with Towns County (3-2, 17-5) to extend the undefeated season record to 6-0. After falling to the Lady Tigers of Dawson, 6-3, for the seventh loss of the season, the Lady Rebels varsity pulled to within one game of .500, with a 6-7 record, after the wins over Union and West Hall. The Lady Rebels pounced on the Lady Panthers early in the home game match up. Union struck first, scoring a run in the top first inning that was answered with two runs in the bottom of the same inning. Katie Brown scored on Allie Barfield’s sac fly, and Amy Mintz scored on a wild pitch.

Leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the third, the Lady Rebels ran off three more runs to take a 5-1 lead into the fourth. Josie Milsaps’ RBI single to right field scored Ashley Rhodes and Barfield’s two run single scored Milsaps and Bailey Jones.

Union managed to score one more run in the top of the third; however Fannin found two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to hold on for the 7-2 win. Starting pitcher, Kaitlyn Dickey pitched six innings, with four strike outs and one earned run. Jace Armstrong came in to close the game, finishing with one strike out for a team total of five for the game.

Barfield led the team in RBI with three. Milsaps had the most hits with four. Six of the seven runs came via RBI.

The walloping of West Hall began early as well, with the visting Lady Rebels scoring seven runs in the first two innings, and eight before the Lady Spartans avoided the shut out with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Five more runs in the fifth, gave Fannin the 13-1 spanking of the Lady Spartans.

Armstrong pitched all five innings, with 11 strike outs, zero earned runs, and only two hits, with 17 first pitch strikes.

Mintz and Barfield each led the team in RBI for the game with three, one of Mintz’ coming via home run. Barfield and Rhodes led the team in hits with three each. Not one Fannin batter struck out during the contest.
