She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 17, 1921, the seventh of ten children of Thomas and Ongie Jones. Carter of Morganton, GA; sisters Delores Shipman of Flat Rock, NC; and Hildreth Merrill of Cresco, PA; brother Henry L. Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; one adopted grandchild and two step-grandchildren.

She married William S. Barkett in 1939 and they had two sons and a daughter. Members of the “Greatest Generation,” Eloise and Bill weathered the depression years and WW II. Bill was a paratrooper who served his country well. Later he started a family boat trailer business in Miami.

Eloise was “born again” in 1972 in Miami, Florida. One of her favorite verses was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 11:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 28 High Country Circle, Morganton, GA 30560.
