Fannin County Earns Historic 31-28 Win Over No. 8 Christian Heritage

BLUE RIDGE, Ga. — Fannin County welcomed undefeated, eighth-ranked Christian Heritage to Rebel Stadium on Friday night as a 13-point underdog. Head Coach David Nichols and the Rebels had other plans.

 

Fannin delivered a 31-28 victory, securing just the second regular-season win over a top-10 opponent in program history. The Rebels improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AA, while Christian Heritage suffered its first loss, falling to 4-1 and 0-1 in region play.

 

After navigating a demanding non-region schedule, Fannin opened region competition with a performance that showed the value of those early challenges. Against a Christian Heritage team picked by many to win the region, the Rebels earned a victory that could carry significant weight in the championship race.

 

The performance also earned Fannin County recognition in Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Georgia High School Football Daily’s “Lines of Distinction.” Offensive linemen Isaac Watkins, Abraham Rosalez, Leo LeGendre, Cayden Reece and Ethan Majors, along with tight end Luke Nichols, helped clear the way for two 100-yard rushers. Cannon Holloway finished with 176 yards on the ground, while Bryson Cole added 116 in the victory.

 

Rebels Enter the Region Title Conversation

 

Friday’s result puts Fannin firmly in the hunt for the program’s sixth region championship. With a win over one of the region’s favorites already secured, there is an argument that the Rebels now control their own path to the crown.

 

But the opportunity comes with a challenge: Fannin should expect every remaining opponent’s best effort.

 

Christian Heritage competes in Region 7-AA during the regular season but, as a private school, will move into the private-school playoff bracket when the postseason begins.

 

Next up for Fannin is Dade County, marking the Rebels’ first matchup this season against a school comparable in size that also represents a one-county, one-high-school system.

 

Challenging Stretch Ahead

 

The Rebels face an approximately 200-mile round trip Friday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Magic Morgan Stadium to take on Dade County at 7:30 p.m.

 

Coach Jeff Poston’s Wolverines present another difficult test. Poston consistently has his team prepared to face Fannin, and the Rebels will need to build on Friday’s performance to return home with another region victory.

 

The following week brings another significant matchup. Fannin returns to Rebel Stadium on Oct. 9 to host Gordon Lee, looking to avenge last season’s 45-7 defeat.

 

Those next two games will go a long way toward determining whether the Rebels can turn their impressive region opener into a championship run.

 

A Place in Program History

 

According to the Georgia High School Football Historians, Friday’s victory marked only the second time Fannin County has defeated a top-10 opponent during the regular season.

 

The first came in 2024, when fourth-ranked Rabun County visited Rebel Stadium and left with a 28-7 loss.

 

Now, the 2026 Rebels have added their own chapter with a 31-28 win over No. 8 Christian Heritage.

 

Again this is regular season not postseason power rankings.

 

A difficult non-region schedule tested Fannin. Friday night provided the payoff—and gave the Rebels plenty to play for as the region race gets underway.
