Rebels Rise: Beat Banks in Sweeping Fashion

The Fannin County High School Rebels soccer teams traveled to Banks County to take on the Leopards. Both the Lady Rebels and Rebels each left with wins. The Lady Rebels won on Sudden Death Penalty Kicks, 5-4, while the Rebels spanked Banks, 4-1.The Lady Rebels led throughout most of the contest with Crystal Jackson scoring a goal in the first half for a one to nil lead at half time.
A Banks corner kick led to a 1-1 tie with 32:03 left in the second half. With 15:08 left in regulation, Katrina King put the Lady Rebels up 2-1 with a goal; however the Lady Leopards scored with 1:04 left to force overtime.
After two five minute over-time periods, the game was decided by penalty kicks. Bethany Deal, Crystal Jackson, and Brittany Cruse all scored goals. Cruse’s goal became the game winner when goalie, Hope Cochran, stopped the final Banks goal, securing the 5-4 Fannin win.
The Rebels beat Banks badly, scoring two goals in the first half and two more in the second, while allowing only one second half goal.
Cody Boswell scored the first Fannin goal with two minutes of play barely finished, at the 38:54 mark of the first half. Justin Young added another goal just before the half, allowing the Rebels to ride a two to nil lead into half time.
Boswell added another goal in the second half along with one from Ruben Rosas. Banks scored one as well; however the Fannin held fast for the 4-1 victory.
