After months of rigorous campaigns and hard-fought debates, the July primaries ended in four run-off races for Fannin County: commissioner chairman, post one commissioner, probate judge, and tax commissioner. Incumbent Chairman Bill Simonds and Challenger Tommy Ledford will vie for commission chair; Clarence Farmer and Earl Johnson will contend for the post one commissioner position and R. Scott Kiker and Julie Fitts-Queen, for probate judge. The tax commissioner run-off will be between Johnny Chastain and Shirley Sosebee.

In the commission chairman race, Simonds received 40.38 percent, while Ledford received 17.24 percent. Farmer earned 26.35 percent for post commissioner spot and Johnson won 31.44 percent. Additionally, Kiker won 35.12 percent for probate judge, just ahead of opponent Julie Fitts-Queen, who earned 28.72 percent. In the tax commissioner race, Chastain received 39.81 percent of the vote, while Sosebee won 40.72 percent.

The run-off election is scheduled for August 21.
