A New #1 Team in the State of Georgia. The Fannin County Lady Rebels
The Atlanta Journal Constitution released their latest Basketball poll on Monday. The Fannin County Rebels are the new #1 team in AA. This is believed to be Fannin County’s 1st Number 1 ranking since 2004. The Lady Rebels finished that season as State Runner Up.
State Runner Up. The Lady Rebels also finished last season as State Runner up losing in the State Championship to Josey in Macon.
This season the Lady Rebels are off to a 15-2 start and a perfect 6-0 in Region Play. The only 2 defeats coming to Defending State Champion Murphy (NC) just up the road on HWY 64 and Jefferson. Jefferson is ranked #1 in Class 4A.
The Lady Rebels Team consisting of Seniors Becca Ledford, Regan York, Jenna Young, Juniors Ellie Cook, Reigan O’neal, Ava Queen, Riley Reeves, Sophomores Courtney Davis, Jayden Bailey, and Macy Hawkins have scored a total of 990 points and allowed 632 on the season.
The job isn’t close to being finished for the Lady Rebels. The remaining players from this team still have that bad taste in their mouth from losing last year in the State Championship. Expect this Fannin County Lady Rebel team to remain laser focused despite being ranked #1.
The Lady Rebels currently sit in first place in region 7-AA. If they finish 1st, Fannin County will host the entire boys and girls 7-AA Region Tournament in February. This would give both Varsity programs (boys and girls teams) a very important home court advantage in the tournament as they pursue entry and seeding for the GHSA state tournament.
Interview with Fannin Lady Rebels Coach Ryan Chastain
“We are excited to be ranked #1 in the AJC poll. It’s fun to talk about, but we want to be ranked #1 in the polls at the end of the season. That’s what our focus is on.
We’re also excited about the opportunity to host the region tournament this year. We want to make sure that it’s played here! It’s important for us and our boys program! We want to do it for both programs and our community! Our boys are playing to get in the state tournament for the first time in a while! We want them to have the chance to achieve that here in our gym! We’ve had a lot of success here in athletics across the board. We want success for everyone! It’s going to be a fun end to the season! We’re fired up to represent Fannin County!”
The Lady Rebels and Rebels travel to Rival Union County tonight. Girls at 6 pm and Boys at 730pm
Fannin Lady Rebels Defeat #7 Oconee County 50-33. Post-Game Comments From Coach Ryan Chastain Fannin 7-1 into Christmas Break

The Fannin County Lady Rebels Basketball Team captured their 7th win of the season over Oconee County 50-33 on Tuesday. Oconee County came into the game ranked 7th in AAA. The win was the Lady Rebels 4th win over a ranked GHSA team. The only loss on the season coming to the #1 Ranked Murphy Bulldogs in North Carolina. Fannin is ranked 3rd in AA.
Coach Ryan Chastain was very pleased with his team effort over a very good Oconee County Team. We asked Coach Chastain to give us some comments on the game and the season up to the Christmas Break.
Post-Game Comments Coach Ryan Chastain:
“Our defense was as good as it’s been all year! Our ball pressure gave them a lot of problems, and our help side rotations are really starting to tighten up. We held them to 12 points in the first half. We felt in control of the game from the start. Holding a team that good to 33 points is a great accomplishment.
We shared the ball extremely well on offense. We had 7 different kids make multiple shots. I think we have made it hard for teams to prepare to stop just 1 or 2 players. We finished it off 50-33. It feels good going to Christmas 7-1 with the schedule we have had.
Overall, I can’t say enough about this team’s toughness and effort in the press and on defense in general! I’m so proud of them!!! It’s becoming this group’s identity! We’re really transitioning from a bunch great individual defenders to a great defensive team. We’ve really been able to force teams to play our game and our pace.
On offense we have had four different kids lead us in scoring so far this year, Becca Ledford, Reagan York, Courtney Davis, and Ellie Cook. I still don’t think we have shot the ball from the 3 point line like we are capable of. That will be a point of emphasis as we move forward. Jenna Young, Reigan O’Neal, Ava Queen, and Riley Reeves have been big in their first year playing a major role on varsity. We’re really happy with how they keep getting each game.
We head to Christmas with 7 wins, and 4 of those teams are or were ranked in the top 10 when we played them (Pickens, North Oconee, Union, Oconee County). Those are very good teams! We also won the ETC tournament championship which was very important to us!
We feel like we are in a good place headed to Christmas break. We’ll really get tested when we go to Lumpkin’s Christmas tournament starting Tuesday December 28th. ”

The Lady Rebels play in the Kelly King Holiday Classic December 28th-December 3oth. This tournament is loaded with some of the top teams in Girls Basketball across all classifications. Fannin will open up against North Gwinnett at 1pm on Tuesday December 28th in Lumpkin.

#3 Lady Rebels Defeat #10 Union 67-45. Assistant Coach Megan Queen Inducted into Fannin Sports Hall Of Fame
It was a special day for the Fannin County Lady Rebel Basketball Program. The #3 Ranked Fannin County Lady Rebels in front of their biggest crowd of the season defeated the #10 ranked Union Lady Panthers 67-45. After the game, Assistant Coach Megan Queen Orton was introduced to the crowd as one of the newest inductees to the Fannin County Sports Hall Of Fame.
1st Quarter
Fannin would get out to a quick 13-6 Lead. Jenna Young would hit the 1st 3 Point Shot of the night for Fannin to give them a 5-2 lead and the Lady Rebels would never look back. Jenna Young and Ava Queen would provide great defense with clutch steals in the quarter leading to Lady Rebel baskets. Young would score the 1st 5 points of the for Fannin. Regan York hit a free throw and Courtney Davis had 7 points in the quarter for the Lady Rebels.

2nd Quarter
Ellie Cook would come off the bench and had 5 points in the quarter including a long 3 point shot. Reigan ONeal and Riley Reeves also contributed off the Lady Rebel bench in the quarter. ONeal adding a bucket and Reeves with a nice corner three that lead to a Lady Rebels 25-14 in the half. Despite being in early foul trouble Becca Ledford would add 2 points in the quarter also.
3rd Quarter
The 3rd Quarter would belong to Senior Becca Ledford. The West Georgia Commit would have 9 points in the quarter. Courtney Davis added 6 points in the quarter. Regan York would score 2 points but her defense presence down low was key. York had a blocked shot and 4 rebounds in the quarter.

4th Quarter
Fannin would outscore Union 25-12 in the 4th Quarter. Courtney Davis added 11, Ellie Cook had 5, Becca Ledford had 4, Reigan ONeal had 3, and Regan York hit 2 Free Throws to complete the scoring in the quarter for the Rebels. Ava Queen picked up her 2nd blocked shot on the night in the quarter.
Regan York played great defense on Union’s Avan Hunter and was clutch from the free throw line.
Game Recap
A Complete team effort by the Lady Rebels. Union County came into the game with notable wins over 6A Habersham Central, White County, Stephens County, 2 Wins over Cherokee Bluff and a Win over Towns County. A very solid win for the Lady Rebels over the #10 Ranked Union County Lady Panthers. Fannin had 67 points, 38 rebounds, 13 assists, 10 steals and 3 blocks.
Fannin County Assistant Coach Megan Queen Orton Introduced as newest inductee in the Fannin County Hall Of Fame
Current Fannin County Assistant Coach and now Fannin County Hall Of Famer Megan Queen was introduced at halftime as one of the newest inductees to the Fannin County Sports Hall Of Fame. When Queen was announced the Fannin County Lady Rebels players rushed to greet her in a celebration that will be remembered for years to come.
Queen had an amazing career at Fannin under Head Coach Johnny Farmer. She was Team Captain and Scored 972 points as a Lady Rebel.

Ryan Chastain’s Fannin County Lady Rebels traveled down to The Buford Arena this past Saturday. The North Georgia High School Showcase welcomed the Lady Rebels against the North Oconee Lady Titans. The Titans entered the game ranked #9 in Class 4A while the Lady Rebels entered the matchup ranked #4 in 2A.
Earlier in the week, Fannin County won the ETC Tip-Off Tourney that was highlighted by a victory over the Pickens County Lady Dragons. Pickens was ranked #8 in Class 4A. Fannin was looking to capture its 2nd victory over a Class 4A Top 10 Team in a 5-day span.
1st Quarter
Ava Queen and Reagan York let their presence known with two big blocks in the paint early in the 1st quarter. Fannin would jump out to a quick 9-2 run to start the game capped off by a nice 3 pointer by Reagan York with a nice assist by Jenna Young. Riley Reeves knocked down a 3 point shot to extend the lead 14-7 in the 1st. Becca Ledford and Reigan ONeal would have the 1st of 6 steals in the game for the Lady Rebels. Ellie Cook would knock down a 3 as Fannin took a 19-14 lead at the end of 1.
2nd Quarter
Jenna Young would get the Rebels scoring started in the 2nd with a clutch 3 Point Bucket. The Lady Rebels would extend their lead to 9 and take a 34-25 lead into the half.
3rd Quarter
The 3rd Quarter would belong to the Lady Rebels. Fannin outscored North Oconee 9-2. Reagan York set the tone for the quarter adding to her great defensive game with a great steal and a block early in the quarter. Courtney Davis hit a long 3 to extend the Lady Rebels Lead 37-27. Fannin would end the quarter with a 43-27 lead.
4th Quarter
Becca Ledford added 4 points in the quarter and Reagan York would add 3 points and the Lady Rebels knocked off the #9 ranked team in Class 4A. Final Score Fannin 59 North Oconee 49.

The Fannin County Lady Rebels moved up to #3 in the GHSA Rankings on Monday. 1 spot up from the 4th spot the held last week.
The Lady Rebels Finished last week 4-0. With 2 top 10 wins over Class 4 A School’s. Fannin will now look to start 5-0 when they play Defending 2x State 1A Champions in North Carolina the Murphy Lady Bulldogs. Gametime is Saturday 6pm at Murphy.
