The Fannin High School Lady Rebels’ soccer team hosted the Eagles of East Jackson in the second round match up of the 8AA Region Tournament, and left the Eagles bald on the scoreboard with a 2-0 victory. The game was a defensive struggle with neither team procuring a plethora of shots on goal in either half. The Eagles committed the first shot on goal with just over 33 minutes left in the half, nearly seven minutes into the half. Fannin goal keeper, Hope Cochran, was able to save the shot, barely. Afterward the Eagles were chastised by the East Jackson sideline.

“We got to crash the goal on that one.”

Neither team seemed to play with a sense of urgency; lethargy loomed rampant throughout the first half. The game was a physical affair. The first Fannin goal came courtesy of the physicality. East Jackson’s Abbey Adams, tripped Fannin’s Cheyenne Golden, and was issued a yellow card. The resulting free kick, allowed Holly Worford to score, the only goal of the half.

The second half saw the Eagles flying around early. An East Jackson shot on goal was saved by Cochran in the first minute of the half. Conversely, the Lady Rebels committed two penalties in the first three minutes of the half.

While the Eagles controlled the possession through the early part of the half, Fannin found a fast break goal with 17:32 left in the game. Worford was wing clipper of the Eagles, scoring for the second time with a shot that hit the top right corner of the goal, a mere inches over the outstretched arm of, Eagles’ goal keeper, Jessica Alacorn.

The goal seemed to energize Fannin as the possession time switched in the Rebels’ favor. Fannin was able to keep the ball on the Eagles’ side of the field and play keep away throughout the rest of the game, protecting the 2 nil lead and securing the win.
