Lady Rebels defeat Indians
Fannin County High, Team FYN Sports December 13, 2019
This past Tuesday, the Lumpkin County Indians traveled to Fannin County High School to take on the Lady Rebels for region play.
Morgan Holt was the one to jump at tip off as she got Fannin started by gaining possession of the ball. The senior showed off her great ball handling skills and made her way to the basket to add 9 points to Fannin’s score for the night. The Lady Rebels were on fire as they were able to put an offense into action and add onto their score. They also had a solid defense that didn’t let Lumpkin score any points in the first quarter. Natalie Thomas hit her second 3 point shot of the night to put Fannin ahead 16-0 to end the first quarter.
Despite their lead, Fannin continued to play hard. Becca Ledford followed the trend as she banked a 3 point shot to add 9 points to Fannin’s score overall. Abby Ledford and Reagan York kept it going for Fannin as they had their fair share of 3 point shots. Ledfrord led Fannin in scoring for the night with 13 points while York was right behind her with 12. In response, Lumpkin was finally able to put points on the board and go into halftime with a score of 24-14 with Fannin still in the lead.
The Indians started to come to life to start the second half. They began to drive the basket and score more points. Mackenzie Johnson was able to do the same as she showed off her hustle to earn a layup for Fannin. With Lumpkin still fighting to stay in the game, the Rebels closed out the third quarter with a 36-24 lead.
Fannin continued to extend their lead as Lumpkin tried to catch up. The Rebels had good looks up the court for made layups while the Indians preferred to look inside for shots. As the buzzer sounded to end the game, the Lady Rebels found themselves with a 51-38 victory and their first region win.
The Lady Rebels loss puts their overall record at 6-3 and their region record at 1-2. Catch the Rebels next game tonight at home starting at 6pm!
