Fannin County Girls Basketball Preview

Fannin Co. Basketball, Sports, Team FYN Sports, TeamFYNSports

The Fannin Co. Lady Rebels basketball team is coming off one of the best seasons in program history. Coach Ryan Chastain leads the way for the Lady Rebels once again this season. Many expect for them to exceed last season’s state runner up spot and win a state title. Last year was a bit of a surprise going from 4th in their region from the 2019-2020 season to 1st without losing a single region game. What will be different is they are not going to catch anyone by surprise this year. They will be going from the hunter to the hunted.

Last Year’s Team:

As mentioned the Fannin Co. Lady Rebels are coming off a state championship appearance from last season. As well they went undefeated in a very competitive region including winning the region tournament. They did lose 6 seniors from last year’s group Prisila Bautista, Paige Foresman, Abby Ledford, Natalie Thomas, Mackenzie Johnson, and Olivia Sisson.

This Years Team:

Fannin Co. returns their top three leading scorers from last year’s team. It all starts with Becca Ledford, a senior who was 1st team all state last year and recently just signed to play college basketball for West Georgia. Then Reagan York, another senior who was all region last year. Lastly from those top three scorers from last year is Courtney Davis a sophomore who was all region last season as just a freshman. She had a really strong second half to the season and will look to build on that coming into this season. Coach Chastain mentioned how pleased he is with the progress of his junior class as well. Yet mostly importantly was having his three seniors continue to provide strong leadership.

Fannins Region 7AA:

Last year’s standings went in order – 1. Fannin County (12-0) 2.Dade County (9-3) 3.Chattooga (8-4) 4.Gordon Central (6-7) 5.Model (5-8) 6.Pepperell (4-9) 7.Coosa (0-13)

Dade and Chattooga should both be strong again this season. Dade returns 3 of their top 4 scorers and only graduated one senior total. Chattooga Returns one all region player and 1 honorable mention player. While Coosa really struggled last year but has a new coach from Alabama and won tons of games in Alabama.

Expectations & Goals:

All things considered the Fannin Co. Lady Rebels should be a force to reckon with this year. They will have a target on their back and very high expectations from most. The good thing is they have the talent, coaching, and mindset to meet those goals and expectations. They have a bonafide star in Becca Ledford and she has a solid cast around her. She is also a part of a strong three person senior class that will provide great leadership. Fannin should be able to win their region as well as the region tournament. Then a run at a state title is very realistic and as coach Chastain has said. The team got a taste of what it was like to get there. Now they want to get a taste of what it is like to win it.
