For their second region matchup of the season, the Fannin Rebels (5-16, 0-10 Region 7-AAA) traveled to Cherokee Bluff ( 13-8, 5-3 Region 7-AAA) last night to take on the Bears. Despite their hard work, Fannin ended up enduring a 73-43 region loss to Cherokee Bluff.
Cherokee Bluff came out ready to play as they were on fire above the key with their outside shots to get the early lead. Fannin followed the trend as they made their fair share of 3 point shots. Eli Brisbay-Cochran led the Rebels in scoring for the night with seven points overall, three of them being from a made shot above the key. Tucker Hanson followed right behind as he made two 3 point shots to contribute six points to Fannin’s score. Jerritt Holloway kept it going as he made a basket, followed by a 3 point shot to add five points on the board for the Rebels. Although the Rebels were making their way to the basket, Cherokee Bluff outscored them and ended the first quarter with a 21-12 lead.
The Bears continued to extend their lead in the second quarter as Fannin looked inside to their posts. Jalen Ingram showed off his moves on the block as he added six points to Fannin’s score. Miles Johnson was right behind Ingram as he pushed back the defense and added four points to the Rebel’s score. Brady Martin followed the trend as he got rebounds and put a shot back up to earn a basket of his own. While Fannin’s posts were working hard, Cherokee Bluff extended their lead and went into halftime with a score of 44-23.
The Rebels did not have much luck on offense to start off the second half. The Bears played a great defense where they only allowed Fannin to score two points the entire third quarter. Cohutta Hyde showed off his great ball handling skills as he was able to break through the heavy defense to score six points for Fannin. Kaeden Twiggs made an appearance in the game after being out due to an injury and made his mark on the board with a made basket. The Bears were able to out score the Rebels and end the third quarter with a 63-25 lead.
Although Fannin was behind, they still fought until the end. Jordan Bennett was scrappy as he was able to draw fouls and add three points to Fannin’s score from free throws. Landon Norton followed the sophomores lead as he also drew a foul and made both of his free throws to put points on the board for the Rebel’s. As the buzzer sounded, Cherokee Bluff found themselves with a 73-43 victory against the Rebels.
Fannin’s loss puts their overall record at 5-16 and their region record at 0-10. Catch the Rebel’s next game on Friday as they travel to East Hall to take on the Vikings starting at 7:30pm!
