Cherokee Bluff couldn’t “Bear” Rebels

Fannin County High, Team FYN Sports

Last night, the Cherokee Bluff Bears traveled to Fannin County High School to take on the Lady Rebels for a region match up.

Cherokee Bluff was the first to put points on the board as they earned an early lead over Fannin. Morgan Holt showed off her skill as she drove through the defense and led Fannin in scoring for the night with 23 points. With Fannin trailing right behind, the Lady Bears kept their lead and ended the first quarter with a score of 19-16.

Becca Ledford was the one to take the lead for Fannin as she made a layup and put the score at 20-19. Ledford had a great game as she added 20 points to Fannin’s score for the night. From then on, Fannin kept their lead for the rest of the game. Natalie Thomas followed the trend as she put the ball into action and earned 5 points for Fannin. With Cherokee Bluff not too far behind, Fanin closed out the first half with a 37-31 lead.

Abby Ledford started off the second half with a made layup to put the ball into action for Fannin. Mackenzie Johnson had grit on defense as she made stops and drew fouls. Reagan York did the same as she got after it and made both of her free throws. While Fannin made foul shots, Cherokee Bluff’s 3 point game came to life. Despite the Bears made shots, it wasn’t enough to overcome Fannin’s 51-48 lead to end the third quarter.

To start the last quarter, Fannin started looking inside to their posts to score points. Saidee Collins had moves on the block as she added 11 points to Fannin’s score. Olivia Sisson had rebounds where she put them back up for shots to earn 3 points for the night. Despite Cherokee Bluff fighting until the end, it was not enough to catch up to Fannin’s 68-58 victory.

Fannin’s victory puts their overall record at 7-3 while their region record stands at 2-2. Catch their next game next Tuesday as they take on East Hall at home starting at 6pm!
