Fannin County High School students and Family Career and Community Leaders of America Officers, Alexis Hill and Bailey Pettit, are offering “Adulting 101” classes now through the end of January on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Fannin County High School. These sessions are designed to prepare students for life after high school and will include interactive sessions on topics like – budgeting, grocery shopping, filing taxes, how to sew a button/how to tie a tie, how to change a tire, and more! Many of these topics are not taught to teens anymore and it is the goal of FCCLA to prepare students for their future. Encourage your students, grades 9-12 to participate in these programs Tuesdays and Thursdays during Flex!

Just another indication that schools need to bring back or revamp Consumer Sciences in our high schools as a requirement. It is only common sense that young people and adults need basic survival skills and they are ever changing! How credit works, costs of financing, household budgeting, food safety, modern day food prep, comparative shopping...... Recently saw a Union Co High School program on making change, ironing, etc. School boards need to look at this.
