BRES wins the Soap Box Derby!

Blue Ridge Elem

Our students were excited to participate in the first annual Blue Ridge Soap Box Derby on April 27 at FCMS. Blue Ridge Elementary had a team of 12 drivers and two cars thanks to generous sponsors: Town and Country Furniture, Team Whaley, and an anonymous donor. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders helped build a car in STEAM classes. Students who were interested in driving were drawn randomly on the morning news and our drivers were: Eva Raque, Lukas Pack, Aydan Hensley, Reece Patterson, Faith Webb, Lacole Moler, Ryleigh Clore, Hunter Pierce, Eli Queen, Jacob Williams, Jayden Long, and Makaya Watson. All of the Blue Ridge students made it to the final rounds. Makaya Watson won 1st, Hunter Pierce won 2nd, and Jacob Williams won 3rd. The BRES garden car won 1st place in best in show and the BRES Steam Punk Car won 2nd place in best in show. Everyone had a great time! Teresa Tate, BRES STEAM teacher, organized and headed up the team.

All three elementary schools as well as the high school participated in the Soap Box Derby.
