Dawson Conquers Fannin

This past Friday, the Fannin Rebels traveled to Dawson County to take on the Tigers for their homecoming game. The Rebels looked to redeem themselves from their first matchup against Dawson where they endured a 70-21 loss.

The Tigers started with the ball and got the first quarter started. It was a very fast paced game where Fannin put up a fight against Dawson’s heavy defense. Chandler Kendall and Joel Kinser both led the Rebels in scoring with nine points each. Kendall earned all of his points from three point shots while Kinser had moves downlow. Dawson’s lead scorer for the night was Jasper Gibson who earned twenty-three points. The Tigers closed out the first quarter with a 21-14 lead over the Rebels.

Although the Rebels were behind, they kept fighting. Dawson decided to press Fannin. The Rebels had great looks up the court and broke the press. Dahla Myers followed Kendall’s trend and contributed a three of his own. Cohutta Hyde showed off his ball handling skills as he maneuvered around the defense and pulled up for shots where he put four points on the board for Fannin. The Tigers were able to extend their lead and end the second quarter with a score of 42-28.

After halftime, Dawson started to catch on to Fannin’s offense and made steal after steal to take back to their basket for points. Kaeden Twiggs and Brady Martin showed off their speed as they drove past the defense and each added two points to the Rebel’s score. Twiggs was the only one able to score in the third quarter, making the score 55-30 with Dawson still in the lead.

Dawson added sixteen points to their score in the fourth quarter while Fannin was only able to add six. Jalen Ingram went after the ball downlow where he got rebounds and earned seven points for Fannin. While Fannin shot down low, Dawson found that the back door was wide open and drove to the basket. As the clock wound down, the Tigers found themselves with a 71-36 victory over the Rebels.
