Lawrence Jacob Hoogendoorn, age 85, of Copperhill, TN, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Mr. Hoogendoorn was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma to the late Kenneth and Beulah Shaw Hoogendoorn. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Ponca City, OK and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Cities Service Company where he had worked as a Rigger Supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Hoogendoorn of the home; children, Audrey (Patrick) Lindstrom of Epworth, GA, Ann (Dennis) Kelly of Ponca City, OK, Jay Hoogendoorn of Ponca City, OK; Sister, Thelma Stewart of Ponca City, OK; Special nephew, Kenneth (Marsha) Stewart of Ponca City, OK; Great- Nephew, Kyle and Dexter Stewart of Ponca City, OK; Special niece, Tonya Dugan and family; grandchildren, Haley, Allison, Riley, and Reese Lindstrom and Lauren Musgrove.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Renny Whittenbarger officiating. Music will be by Harry Gilbert and Ed Vest. Pallbearers include, Dennis Ledford, Russ Meek, Terry Abernathy, Richard Sims, Jimmy Newton, Jimmy Grizzle, Jeff Collins, Brandon Shields and Cole Barker. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Hoogendoorn may be made to the Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or online at www.hospice of Chattanooga.org.
