Haley Campbell Is Mountain Education’s Valedictorian

Mountain Education Charter High School was originally set up to address high school students who had left the traditional high school system and needed credits to earn their high school diploma. The first site was established in 1993 as a three-county collaborative between Fannin, Union and Towns Counties, with a second site added in Gilmer County in 1994. Today Mountain Education has 1876    students enrolled in fifteen sites throughout the North Georgia Mountains. The Fannin site was opened in 2011 and currently has over 100 active students.  Every year the Mountain Education Charter High School system chooses its top graduate to be the valedictorian. Fannin’s site is honored to recognize Haley Campbell as this year’s top graduate among all of MEC’s fifteen sites.

Haley, daughter of Jamey Campbell, is a native of Blue Ridge and attended Fannin High School before coming to MECHS.  Haley decided that she wanted to finish high school early and liked the fact that she could work at her own pace in a flexible timeframe. Being focused and goal-oriented, Haley felt that she could be in charge of her lifestyle choices at MEC.  Haley was able to work as a part time receptionist at Blue Ridge City Hall and continue with her schooling simultaneously. She was also able to attend North Georgia Technical College as a Move On When Ready student and completed several college credits while attending high school.

Haley is a devoted advocate of the foster parent program. Her grandparents Derryl and Diane Parker have acted as foster parents for over 200 children.  She has seen the difference one person can make in someone’s life. Haley has sponsored diaper drives at Fannin High School and at Fannin’s MEC for this program.

Mountain Education is proud of our valedictorian Haley Campbell. She has incorporated a strong work and life ethic from a variety of her life experiences: communication skills from her job, compassion from her foster care advocacy, and an appreciation of education and learning from MECHS and Fannin High School. Haley hopes to continue with her education in the medical profession. We know she will be truly successful in her future endeavors.
