Fannin County Schools’ Bus Driver and Pastor, Larry Williams, Says Job Never Threatened

News

Last week one of the rumors circulating around the county was that the Board of Education was threatening jobs of employees who did not support the School Board’s decision regarding transgender bathrooms. During public comments over transgender bathrooms at the Fannin County School Board meeting, Larry Williams stated other jobs and my job have not been threatened by employees’ disagreeing with Fannin School Board.  Mr. Williams is a bus driver for Fannin County School System and the Pastor of Sugar Creek Baptist Church. (see related article about the Board of Education meeting, “Transgender Bathrooms in Fannin County Schools.”

Several times during his speech at the School Board meeting, Mr. Williams’ called on the School Board to take a stand against transgender bathrooms.  He closed his comments with “[we will] look for someone else to vote for next time. [We will] clean house from top to bottom.”  The video of Mr. Williams comments is at the bottom of the article.

FetchYourNews caught up with Mr. Williams to find out what he meant.  Mr. Williams said that neither he nor his job has been threatened by Superintendent Mark Henson.  In fact, he said that he has spoken with Mr. Henson several times and Mr. Williams feels that he “can go in and say whatever I want to at any time as long as I speak to folks in order and like Christians.”

Mr. Williams ended the interview with a story about Mr. Henson.  “Let me tell you what a good man he is,” said Mr. Williams.  The school system had some leftover grant money that could go for paying salaries.  Mr. Henson could have divided up the money according to the type of jobs people have.  This means that the teachers would receive more and lower-paid employees, like bus drivers would hardly get any money.  Mr. Henson divided the money equally for all employees.  I [Mr. Williams] got a $900 check, just like every school employee in the county.”
