Fannin Trudges Through Region Matches

The Fannin County High School Rebels soccer squad have started region play and surged back from two losses to defeat Franklin County last Friday, 6-3.

The away match against the Franklin County Lions failed to spark any offense, until a heavy dose came in the second half.

Taylor Cheek broke the deadlock with a Fannin goal, before the Lions responded to tie the match. Cheek added another goal and the Rebels widened their lead with a goal from Adam Ingram. Franklin County then tied the match at 3-3, with two goals off corner kicks.

Cheek completed the hat trick to put the Rebels back out front, before securing his fourth goal of the contest to extend the FCHS lead to 5-3. Brandon Carranza then topped off the victory with a goal that helped push the Rebels to a 6-3 victory.

Dylan Frank finished the game with nine saves at goalkeeper for Fannin.

At home against reigning AAA state champions the West Hall Spartans March 4, the Rebels fell 3-0.

Frank recorded eight saves for Fannin against the Spartans.

AAA state runners-up the East Hall Vikings was the next opposition the Rebels faced, in a home match last Tuesday. After the Vikings opened up a 3-0 lead in the second half, Bryan Carranza scored a goal to get Fannin on the scoreboard. The Rebels were unable to continue their comeback effort and dropped the match 3-1.

Frank recorded 12 saves against the Vikings.

Following the first set of region matches, the Rebels are 4-2-2 (1-2 in region play) for the year. Fannin will host Union County tonight, before resuming region action with a match at Dawson County Thursday.
