Daniel “Dan” Ernest Bailey: Obituary

Daniel “Dan” Ernest Bailey, age 80, of Morganton, GA passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 in Hiram, GA. He was born on September 9, 1935 in Fannin County, GA to the late Milus W. Bailey and Ruby Lee Kendall Bailey. Dan proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1953-1958. He married Nancy Virginia Hull on September 9, 1960 and together they lived in Mableton, GA and raised their family. Dan worked for Ford Motor Company as a door repairman for thirty years and retired in 1995. Dan married Madelyn Dockery Bailey in December of 1995 and retired to Morganton, GA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Virginia Hull Bailey.

Dan was very active in the community. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Dan was an extremely hard worker and devoted Masonic member. He was a member of Ocoee Lodge #201 F&AM, where he served as the Worshipful Master for two terms. Dan was a 32nd degree mason traveling through both the Scottish and York Rite bodies. He was also a member of the Yaarb Shrine Temple in Atlanta, GA and was extremely active with the North GA Shrine Club in Blue Ridge.

Survivors are his wife, Madelyn Dockery Bailey; four grown children, Peggy Sue Sconyers (Eric Moatz), Danny Bailey (Shanan), Denise Bailey Howell (Roger) and Wesley Derek Bailey (Kelly); eleven grandchildren, Heather Ann Gray, April, Brandon, Chelsea, Cross, Chase, Dylan, Brent and Katlyn Bailey, Braden Belew and Madison Howell and two great-grandchildren, Zion and Gracelyn Gray also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Dr. Roger Beck officiating. Music will be by Tony and Miriam Moon. Interment will follow on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. from the Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens, 581 Veterans Memorial Highway, S.E., Mableton, GA 30126 with Pastor Daniel Gray. Pallbearers will be Darren, Cross and Trent Bailey, Keith Hall, Eric Moatz and Jimmy Gragg. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and Masonic graveside rites will be provided by Ocoee Lodge #201 F&AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Bailey’s memory to ShrinersHospitalsForChildren.org. or Shriners Hospital at 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
