Mrs. Dorothy Joan McKenzie, age 83 of Morganton, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge. She was born on Wednesday, March 2, 1932 in Wilkes Barre, PA to the late Jack and Mary O’Kunieska. Mrs. McKenzie had been employed by J.L. Prescott Trucking. She was a member of Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, was active in the Saint’s Alive Group at the church when she was able and love to raise funds for the needy children of Blue Ridge. Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her son, Tommy McKenzie.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd McKenzie; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Fern Kropewnicki of Morganton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Ann and Chuck Kittrell of Mineral Bluff, GA, Nancy and Doug Lenz of Ellijay, GA and Pamela and Carl Hinson of Stockbridge, GA; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from Blue Ridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donation to “The Children’s Fund”, C/O Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Blue Ridge, GA 30513. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
