James Hugh Johnson, age 73 of Blue Ridge, passed away July 20, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Johnson was born October 23, 1941 in Ducktown, TN to the late Flora Sue Spriggs Johnson. Mr. Johnson grew up in Blue Ridge, going to the First Baptist Church with his mother and participated in the youth activities. He loved God, dogs, Braves baseball, reading and a cup of hot coffee. He loved to watch the morning sky just before sunrise and believed that God was love and was always with us. “My God and I” was one of his favorite songs. He loved talking to people and doing random acts of kindness. He lied life and enjoyed all it’s experiences. He found peace through prayer.
Mr. Johnson went to Blue Ridge Elementary School, West Fannin High School and Mt Berry School for Boys. He played trumpet, baritone and occasionally tuba in the band. Mr. Johnson wanted to be a doctor when he grew up, but he had attended a financial class and enjoyed it so much that he decided to become a banker. He worked for CandS Banking and owned several small businesses. His best friend was Bud Ward and he liked to listen to the blues.
He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Flora Marie (Robert) Johnson-Bastain.
There will be a graveside services on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Turtletown, TN.
