Double Homicide in Union County

Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into a double homicide in Blairsville, GA. Rhea Medical Center in Dayton, TN alerted Dayton police after Cody Lee Vestal, 35, was admitted. Dayton officers arrived at the medical center and discovered Vestal was driving a vehicle registered at 903 Highway 325 in Blairsville, GA. The officers also observed a firearm inside the vehicle. At this point Dayton PD placed a call to the Union County Sheriff’s Office . Union County Sheriff’s office went out to the address on the registration on March 16th and discovered two bodies inside the residence. The bodies appeared to have been shot.

Two arrest warrants for murder have been secured for Vestal. Vestal, who was transferred to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, has been placed under arrest and is under guard at the hospital.

The identify of the victims has not been released until next of kin can be notified. Both bodies were transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta where autopsies will be done today, March 18th, 2015. The Union County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance from the GBI with the death investigation. When the investigation is complete, the results will be turned over to the district attorney.
