Rebels and Lady Rebels Go 2-2 Splitting the Weekend

The Rebels and Lady Rebels held two home bouts over the weekend facing the Panthers from Union and the Leopards from Banks.
On Friday, Fannin awaited the Panthers. The ladies took the court first to face the defensive minded team. Earlier in the year the Lady Rebels went to Union and brought back a “W” this time, however would not be the case as the Panthers won by a final of 39-55.

Stefanie Tatum kept the ladies in the game with a big presence in the first quarter to let the game be tied at 13 after one.

A big three by Molly Chandler, combined with a four for four effort from the free throw line by the team, allowed the ladies to take a 28-24 lead into the half.

Union opened the third quarter going on a 5-0 run and wouldn’t stop there. Fannin walked away with only a five point third quarter allowing the Lady Panthers to walk away with the win.

When it was time for the boys to step up against the Panthers, fans could tell they wanted the win after a heart breaking loss to Union earlier in the year.

Logan Holt starting for the injured Will Holloway opened the Rebels up with two big three point shot to spark a 10-4 first quarter run.

Sam Kaye and Clay Ware where dominate forces in the game both helping out greatly on defense. The duo help kept Fannin in game after a big Union 2nd quarter to let the halftime score be 25-23 Union.

The game remained close throughout the third with Union maintaining a four point lead to start the final eight minutes.

Brandon Jordan’s six points to open the half made it a ball game. The Panthers big man would foul out early making Union start fouling to try to check up.

Fannin went 11-13 on foul shot to pull ahead and win the game 62-59.

Saturday brought in the Region giant of Banks County for both teams to face.

The Banks County Lady Leopards walked in with a 17-2 record, but Chandler and the Lady Rebels would have something to say to that.

Chandler started the ladies off strong, scoring 10 of Fannin’s 11 first quarter points.

The second quarter something clicked on offense and defense as the Rebels scored 16 points while holding the Leopards to 0. The big quarter left the halftime score 27-11 in favor of Fannin.

The Lady Rebels got off to a slow start in the third, allowing the Banks County squad to pull within seven to start the fourth.

Kayla Chancey helped put the game away hitting 7-8 foul shots in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Rebels walked away winners by a final score of 56- 37

Chandler ended with 20 points in the win.

Hope Franklin did a fantastic job stepping up off the bench getting to huge blocks and 5 points on the game.

The Ladies move to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the region as they get set to face region Lumpkin on Tuesday at home.

The Rebels did not fair the same as the girls against powerhouse Banks.

Holt’s 13 point game was not enough as the Boys in Blue fell 65-43. Fannin stayed in the game to start holding the Leopards to only a 3 point lead after the 1st quarter.

A 19 point second quarter was all the Leopards needed to pull away and not look back.

The boys now stand at 10-7 overall and 2-4 in the region as they get set to face the Indians of Lumpkin on Tuesday.
