Charles Owenby : Obituary

Charles Taylor Owenby, age 73, of Covington, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at his home.
Charles was born in Blairsville, Georgia, on January 2, 1940, a son of the late Dwight Charlie Owenby and the late Fannie Henson Owenby. Charles moved to Atlanta in 1959, and then to Covington in 1971. He was an over the road trucker for 28 years. He attended Solid Rock Baptist Church in Covington. Charles loved his black coffee, and was an avid gardener and sports fan. He loved his family and was at his happiest when all of his family was gathered together at home. He will be remembered for being a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Preceding him in death besides his parents, was a sister, Joy Owenby Garrett; and two brothers, Guy Owenby and William Dwight “Billy” Owenby.

Charles will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him, and missed most especially by his loving family: his wife, Nina Mason Owenby, of Covington; a son, Charles Stephen Owenby, of Covington; three daughters and sons-in-law: Pamela Owenby Forrest and Steve Forrest, of Loganville, Georgia; Vicki Owenby Bailey and Garrick Bailey, of Gainesville, Georgia; and Valerie Blankenship and Allen Blankenship, of Loganville, Georgia; brothers: Lucky Boyd Owenby; Danny (Debbie) Owenby; Ricky (Traci) Owenby; Ronnie (Debbie) Owenby; sisters: Betty Rhodes (Kenneth Jenkins); Joan (Charles) Totherow; Judy (Ronnie) Kelley; all of Blairsville; Linda (Ricky) Towe, of Oakwood, Georgia; and Brenda Davenport and Randy Mosteller, of Blairsville; grandchildren: Andrew and Brynn Middlebrooks, Taylor Owenby, Ashton Bailey, Alana Bailey, Alyssa Forrest, Reeves Blankenship, Emily Blankenship, and Rebecca Blankenship. Many other nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, October 6, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Special music will be presented by Danita and Michael Kennedy, accompanied by Patsy Davenport. Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Mike Parker, Tim Collins, Todd Collins, Tracy Collins, William Owenby, Terry Kelley, Chad Towe, Kyle Owenby, Kolt Owenby, and Kody Owenby. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, October 6, 2013, starting at 12 noon before the services.
